Causes of <strong>FMD</strong> Animal movement ,sheep and goats insummer and winter. International and local trade play a majorrole in introducing and spreading of infection(Legal and illegal way).
Strategy Control of <strong>FMD</strong> inJordanVaccination is the only method of controlof <strong>FMD</strong> in <strong>JORDAN</strong>.Government provided Vaccination as aservice free of charge to the owners. Small ruminants: Monovalent type O twice/year Cattle: Monovalent type O three times/year imported fromTurkeyfrom RussaBivalent (O+A) was used after <strong>FMD</strong> outbreak imported * Most of dairy farms vaccinate their flocks using Trivalentvaccine (O, A and Asia 1) which is imported by privatesector.

<strong>FMD</strong> is endemic in Jordan (type O), which ischaracterized by classical form, low morbidity and mortalityexcept young lambs in non vaccinated sheep flocks. Farm infected with type A was different, casescharacterized by high morbidity (80-90%) and 34 animalsdied. Samples were collected and sent to WRL (Pirbright(Pirbright) ) forvirus isolation and sequencing, while the central lab inAmman used 3ABC Elisa, (RT-PCR 2007 and up).
Control Measures Immediate notification to <strong>OIE</strong> Movement control around the infected area(3 km). Disinfection of the premises Vaccination Follow up report and final report were sentto <strong>OIE</strong> by the end of the outbreak
Regional Strategy for <strong>FMD</strong> control andsurveillance. National and Regional contingency planshould be prepared.Harmonization of vaccination strategy.
