SFarewell Ruston Highby Christian AmosSports Editortaff FarewellChatterboxRuston High School June 2, 2011 Page 24It’s Been an Honorby Gray TaylorGraphics/Design EditorWhen I graduated from Ruston High I also had to say good-bye to a specific job that I sincerely love. For the past two years Ihave had the honor to report on the district, regional, state, and even national champions of Ruston High School as Sports Editor.Being an editor for the RHS Chatterbox has allowed me to expand my journalistic limits and the development of my personal slogan,―the voice of RHS athletics‖, began. As I recount the wins and losses I have reported on for the past two years, the one win that I can recall is the 2009 girls‘ crosscountrystate champ team that blew the competition out of the water at every meet. Wins such as that not only fuel me as a journalist, but as a Bearcat, I am proud to be among some of the best high school athletes. It is my hope that the player of the month serieswill continue to highlight these intense athletes and their skills. As a junior on the staff, I went from the title of sports reporter to the sports editor during the first publication of 2009 after I washanded the responsibility of reporting on all sporting events related to RHS. The transition was made with no regrets. One thing Chatterbox has taught me that no core subject class could ever teach me is that working with others requires most thatjust collaboration; it demands communication, consideration, and coordination. I have to thank three special people for making meand the sports section look good each month. Natasha Alva, News Editor, proofread many parts of the section, photographed manyevents for the section, and occasionally reported on soccer games. Thank you Natasha, your work did not go unnoticed. Sports reporterKeeKee Williams went beyond her reporting duties at times by assisting me and other staff with tasks to meet deadlines. ReedMalek (2011-2012 Sports Editor) has lead by example in his writing and has proven that he is qualified to report on athletic events.Lastly, I would like to thank my Chatterbox/FBLA adviser, Mr. Lloyd Bruner. He has done what many teachers and sponsorshave not; he has allowed me to think outside the box (no pun intended) and into a space where my creativity has grown. It is alwaysgreat to see yourself grow over time, but it is even more amazing when people you consider your family grows also. The Chatterboxstaff is filled with diverse characters and each has their own strengths, but together for each publication these 18 staff members accomplishthe objective set from the start, to be ―the voice of Ruston High‖Four years has never felt so short. In a nutshell, my freshman year was okay, sophomore year was crud, junior year was great, and senior year has been incredible.Ruston High School is definitely the best high school a person could attend, and I‘m going to miss it. I have met some of the bestpeople I will ever know, and I hope to stay in touch with them as our lives go on.Working for the Chatterbox has been a privilege as well as a great experience. It feels good knowing I have made the entireschool laugh with my cartoons, and whoever replaces me next year has some big shoes to fill. I have accomplished a lot in fouryears, but it seems that a lot is never enough. To everyone at Ruston High, I say ‗thank you.‘ It has been an honor serving with you all.Chatterbox is aproud memberof theChatterbox staffare proudmembers ofChatterbox Staff: 2010-2011
