They have journeyed, endured, and dominated the track field. Spring flourishedwith their talent and they have certainly wrapped up the year proudly as well as set the bar for next year‘s track.In March, the team competed at the Simsboro Invitational meet and dominated the competition. In the boy‗s division, there were countless winsand few losses. Overall, the boys came in second with a score of 137 points. In the girl‗s events, there were an even more impressive finish—theyearned first place with a total of 228 points. In April, both the girls‘ and boys‘ Ruston‘s track and field team captured first in the ―Hoss‖ GarrettRelays and the Oil Belt Relays in El Dorado, Arkansas. In May, both the girls‘ and boys‘ track & field teams brought home first place overall.To close the year, the boys team took 3rd place and the girl‘s team took 6th. It was an outstanding year for RHS track and field. They havecertainly set the bar for next year‘s team to beat. You made running look more fun than exhausting and you managed to beat everyone in yourway doing it. Cats, you truly have earned a spot in the Book of Ruston High School Records. Congratulations and we all proud of your hardwork and achievements. GO CATS!Cross Country Teams Run to Class 4A Runner-Up Titlesby Christian AmosSports EditorBoth the girls and boys Cross Country teams shutout the competition at their races. At District, the Lady Bearcatsstuck together and broke from the pack to dominate the district 2-4A Championship. This continued a longtradition of district champions for Ruston High. For the boys’ part, they took the title as well.At state, Ruston High continued their success in both the girls’ and boy’s events. With their outstanding performancesat state, both teams earned the titles of class 4A state runner-up.Boy’s Basketball Makes Playoffsby Reed MalekSports ReporterBoys‘ basketball earned a pos-season birth into the LHSAA Boy‘s Basketball playoffs with an improved 16-12 record. Facing a strong MorganCity Tigers team on the road in the first round, they played hard but fell to the higher ranked Tigers by a score of 57-49. This season Ruston hadtwo Most Valuable Players, Jamaya Burr and Jerry Melton, who led the Bearcats in a season which promises to build a stronger team next year asRuston moves back to district 5A.Girl’s Basketball Has Great Seasonby Reed MalekSports ReporterThe Lady ‗Cats took an outstanding district record into the playoffs and the crowds followed them into the 2nd round. Playing hard all year,the Lady ‗Cats finished as district runner-ups behind the top ranked Bastrop Ladies.Despite their effort, the Lady ‗Cats fell short but gave the packed house another great show. The players gave their all and next year shouldbe another great year as well. Thanks Lady ‗Cats for a great year!Junior Chase Millien runs the3200m Dash at Regionals.Swim Team ends their Year in Goldby Keekee WilliamsSports ReporterThe RHS Swim Team trained all year to compete in the LHSAA State Championship in Sulphur, LA, to mark the end of their season.Each team member contributed points to the total result and did well in their individual events. Chase Borden came in 9th placein the 100-meter breaststroke and 17th in the 50-meter freestyle. AJ Brown placed 24th in the 50-meter freestyle and Chaning Dorrsited an 11th place in the 100-meter breaststroke. Natalie Dyke had a place of 14th in the 100-meter fly and 21st in the 100-meterbackstroke while Taylor Kaufman took the 5th place in 100-meter back-stroke and 10th in the 200-meter individual medley. JakeKyte took home a runner-up win in the 500-meter freestyle and a 4th place finish in the 200-meter freestyle. The ladies relay squadof Taylor Kaufman, Chaning Dorr, Maddie Huckabee and Natalie Dyke came out of the water with an 8th place finish for the Girls200-meter Freestyle Relay. Ultimately, the girls finished in 12th place overall out of the 20 teams that participated. The boys came inat 13th overall over the 18 competitors.RHS Swim Team 2010-2011
