Requests must be made well in advance <strong>of</strong> yourplanned arrival at <strong>Somerville</strong>.Please bring with you a number <strong>of</strong> passport-size photos <strong>of</strong> yourself, as you may need these for a variety <strong>of</strong>purposes in your first week or so in <strong>Oxford</strong>.At the end <strong>of</strong> this document you will find a map <strong>of</strong> central <strong>Oxford</strong> which shows the location <strong>of</strong> <strong>Somerville</strong>.When you arrive at the <strong>College</strong>, report to the Porters' Lodge, which is the reception just inside the mainentrance to the <strong>College</strong> on Woodstock Road. There you will be given your key(s) and electronic access card,and told how to find your room if you will be living in <strong>College</strong>. Please check your pigeonhole and collect anypost.Once you have settled in you need to visit the Academic Office and please do this between 10a.m and12p.m. Monday to Friday. You must take your passport and/or Biometric Identity card with you so that wescan and keep a copy on your file. The Academic Office is House 5 which is on the ground floor, next doorto the <strong>College</strong> Bar.You will be given documents included in the Important Documents Mailing and your <strong>University</strong> Card (whichfunctions as your ID and library card). You will also be able to get a signature for any documents you mayhave which need the signature <strong>of</strong> a <strong>College</strong> Officer, and you can request documents you may need to opena bank account or for other purposes. You will be given an induction timetable detailing induction sessionsyou will need to attend in the week beginning Monday 7 October 2013.19.1 Parking and unloadingWhen you arrive, our limited car parking space means that you will not be able to park a car or other motorvehicle on the <strong>College</strong> site, unless you have mobility difficulties. In order to unload your belongings from a car or other motor vehicle, you will be able to park for amaximum <strong>of</strong> 20 minutes in front <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong> on Woodstock Road, or at the back <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong> onWalton Street. <strong>College</strong> Porters will be on hand at these locations to oversee unloading. A map showing thelocation <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong> is available on our Web site at http://www.some.ox.ac.uk/directions.A notice will be available from the <strong>College</strong>'s Porters' Lodge to put in your vehicle windscreen, saying thatyou are unloading for 20 minutes. However, such notices do not guarantee immunity from traffic wardens.There is Pay and Display parking on roads near the <strong>College</strong>, but this may all be full when you arrive. Wetherefore recommend parking in the Pear Tree Park & Ride site, to the north <strong>of</strong> <strong>Oxford</strong>. You must attend certain <strong>College</strong> induction sessionsduring this week, and your department or faculty may also require you to attend inductions.19.3 Freshers' Dinner, Wednesday 9 th October 2013On this evening, there will be a special welcome dinner in the Dining Hall for all new undergraduate andgraduate students, preceded by a drinks reception with <strong>College</strong> tutor(s) in your subject area. Tutors willalso attend the dinner. This is a formal occasion, so you will be expected to dress smartly. Note thatacademic gowns are not worn for this or other formal <strong>College</strong> dinners. Please let the Conference andCatering Manager know if you have special dietary requirements for this event.
