If possible, please register online before you arrive in <strong>Oxford</strong>. Registration will be open from1 September 2013. If you have applied for student loans supplied by the UK Government, your first loaninstalment should be paid to you within a week or so <strong>of</strong> your arrival at <strong>Somerville</strong>, providing that you havealready registered online with the <strong>University</strong>.You will not be able to register until you have completed and returned your <strong>University</strong> Contract (seebelow). If you are not able to register in advance <strong>of</strong> arriving in <strong>Oxford</strong>, you will be able to do so once youare here.1.2 <strong>University</strong> contractYour department or faculty will already have sent you, or will soon be sending you, a <strong>University</strong> contract tosign and return.Your signing <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> contract constitutes your agreement to abide by the <strong>University</strong>'s rules. It alsoenables the <strong>University</strong> to produce your <strong>University</strong> Card, which will give you access to facilities includinglibraries and an email address. Provided the <strong>University</strong> has received your <strong>University</strong> Contract in good time,your <strong>University</strong> Card should be available when you arrive at <strong>Somerville</strong>.If the <strong>University</strong> does not receive your Contract in good time, your <strong>University</strong> Card may not be ready whenyou arrive in <strong>Oxford</strong>, and this will delay your access to email, libraries, and other useful resources.2.1 <strong>College</strong> contractAs at other universities, a person accepting admission to a college thereby accepts an obligation to obeythe rules <strong>of</strong> that college and <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> and to pay such fees, dues and charges as the <strong>University</strong> orcollege may lawfully determine. The undertaking to obey these rules forms part <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Somerville</strong> <strong>College</strong>Contract 2013 on the New Graduates webpage.The <strong>College</strong> contract also covers a number <strong>of</strong> other important matters, including compliance with therequirements <strong>of</strong> the Data Protection Act. Please note that if another student urgently needs a book fromthe <strong>College</strong> Library, it is sometimes necessary for the Library staff to disclose the name <strong>of</strong> the reader towhom the book is currently checked out. Please inform the Librarian in writing if you are unwilling for suchdisclosure to be made in your case.If you accept the <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>of</strong> a place at <strong>Somerville</strong> <strong>College</strong>, please print and sign the <strong>Somerville</strong> <strong>College</strong>Contract. Please print double-sided if possible, and staple the pages together in the top left-hand corner.Fill in your Contract, and send it in hard copy to the Academic Office at <strong>Somerville</strong>, to arrive no later thanFriday 13 September 2013.The principal <strong>College</strong> Rules are detailed at the end <strong>of</strong> the contract.
