MASSDear Parishioners of Visitation Parish,The gospel of Matthew tells of this incident: “As Hewalked by the Sea of Galilee, Jesus saw two brothers,Simon and Andrew, casting a net into the sea for they werefishermen. And He said to them, ‘Follow me and I willmake you fish for people.’ Immediately they left their netsand followed Him. As He went from there, He saw twoother brothers, James and John, mending their nets and Hecalled to them. Immediately they left their boat and theirfather and followed him.”It all sounds so easy. A call went out and the response wasalmost unbelievable. As those first disciples chose to followJesus, what did they leave behind? Nets, boats, even parents—thevery things they depended on for life and security!Knowing what you know of Jesus, what are you ready to“leave behind” in order to follow Him (as a catechist) and continuehis mission?A call goes out every year for the need for catechists tocontinue the mission of Jesus and the call goes out againthis year. Several catechists have asked that they not beconsidered for this ministry this year; their children are outof the program and they need to be involved in their childrens’lives in another way. So that leaves us with the needto recruit other catechists.If you hear this call in your heart, and think that maybe youmight want to answer this call, pray and ask for the guidanceof the Holy Spirit. And then pick up the phone and give a callto the R.E. office at 279-7058. We will try to answer anyquestions you may have. (P.S. We are not asking you to leaveyour family.) Preparation is given to the new catechists, soyou are not left on your own.We need the time to this preparation in an effective way, soplease do not wait till the day before class starts to give usyour name.NOTE: Check next week’s bulletin for a list of tengood, tried and proven, reasons for you to volunteer to bea catechist.We need catechists for the following time slots and grades:Wednesday at 4:30 P.M. for grades 4, 5, 6, 7 (2), and 8;Wednesday at 6:30 P.M. for grade 4 and 6; and Thursday at4:30 P.M. for grades 1, 3 (2), 4 (2), 5, 6, and 7.Sr. ConstancePage 5

We thank all our participantsand remind so many other families who are not a partof our program that all Visitation parishioners can take advantageof the earned credit for another school family or simplyto help the school. A few have asked how the program works.Our program is so easy to use and takes so little effort to stopin at one of the twice weekly Walk-in Services and make yourselections from over 200 stores and restaurants. As a simpleexample, the discount rate on Jewel or Dominick’s gift certificatesis 4%. For every $100 purchased MANNA pays thesupplier $96 and you get the $4 difference in the form ofearned credit to use for yourself, another family or to supportthe school. Our discounts range from 2% to 50%. When youshop at participating stores, you use the certificates as youwould use cash. And remember, the gift certificates sold byour program are the exact same certificates you could purchaseat the stores and may be used at any of the chains withinthe U.S.For additional information or to place a large order, please callDavid James at 630-834-0967 before 6:00 P.M. Theeffort was organized by Michael O’Ryan and the booth wascovered over the weekend by: Barb Arcaro, Mary Flynn,Paul Morris, Tony DiDomenico, Colleen Case and our HighSchool Youth Group, Jim Headley, Steve Walsh, Tim andTerry Koch, Katy and Brian Costello, Mary Ellen Schneider,Tom O’Malley, Andy Mayfield, Shani Liszka, Amy Torres,Cyndi Higgins, Nancy Hamilton and Jackie and MikeOsterhout.
