VISITATION MISSION STATEMENT
Visitation Parish, a Roman Catholic Community in the Diocese of Joliet-in-Illinois, seeks to draw all to Jesus Christ, revelation
of the Father and font of the Holy Spirit, by celebrating the Sacraments, educating people of all ages in the Truths of the
Catholic Faith, and reaching out to those who are physically, emotionally or spiritually in need.

Call or stop in the Rectory Office to register as a member of Visitation Parish.
Every Sunday at 1:30 P.M. Parents are required to take a Baptism Preparation Class beforehand.
Classes are held every other month, so please plan ahead. Call Rectory for information.
Arrangements must be made at the Rectory at least six months in advance. Catholic parties must
obtain a NEWLY issued certificate of their Baptism and then contact the Rectory before making any
other arrangements. Weddings scheduled at 12:00 or 2:00 P.M. on Saturday. NO Sunday Weddings.
It is the responsibility of the parish to bury their dead. The funeral director will contact the parish
regarding arrangements. No specific offering is required for the parish in connection with the
funeral liturgy.
The Perpetual Adoration Chapel of Our Lady, Mother of the Eucharist, is available 24 hours a day for private
prayer and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, exposed on the Altar. The Chapel is located in the
Convent building (south of the church).
Devotions in honor of Saint Peregrine, the patron saint of those who suffer with cancer will be held
the third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 P.M. in the church.
Due to changes in hospital admitting policies, it is necessary to inform the Rectory when hospitalized
parishioners would like a visit from a priest or deacon. Catholic chaplains are assigned to area
hospitals to administer the Sacraments. Visitation parish priests visit Elmhurst Hospital twice a
week on Tuesdays and Fridays.

PARISH BUSINESS
Dear Visitation Parishioners,
“Jesus said to them, ‘The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest
to send out laborers for his harvest.” (Luke 10:2) Just over a month ago these words, proclaimed at a Sunday
Mass, echoed in our church. Today, the meaning of those words are felt as we bid farewell to Fr. Jan. Fr. Jan, a
priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago, received a letter from the Cardinal calling him back to the Archdiocese.
Sometime ago, I learned that this was a possibility, but it was not until very recently that it became clear he would
not be able to stay at Visitation. This leaves us without a second priest to serve our community simply because
there are no priests available to be assigned to Visitation. Once Fr. Jan is settled and able to return for a weekend,
we hope to give him a proper farwell reception.
Since we have become a one-priest parish for the foreseeable future, certain changes must be made to our Daily
Mass schedule. I am grateful to Fr. Colman who, since his retirement, has volunteered to celebrate a morning Mass
on Mondays and Wednesdays, and will now volunteer for Tuesdays as well. With his help we will be able to maintain
a morning Mass on Mondays, and keep the two morning Masses on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Our weekday
Mass schedule will be the following:
Monday—8:15 A.M.
Tuesday & Wednesday—6:15 A.M. & 8:15 A.M.
Thursday & Friday—8:15 A.M.
1 st Saturday of the Month—8:15 A.M.
The Sunday Mass schedule will remain the same. Fr. Tivy will continue to help us for one Mass every Sunday
and we will continue to look for a second priest who will be able to assist us in our need. The Sunday Schedule is:

The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Thursday, August 15
This Thursday, August 15, is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into
Heaven, a holy day of obligation. On this day all Catholics are bound to attend Mass.
The Solemnity of the Assumption celebrates the special gift God gave the Virgin Mary of the
glorified body of Resurrection. Basically, the doctrine of the Assumption says that at the end of
Her earthly life, the Blessed Virgin Mary was assumed body and soul into Heaven. This belief
flows from the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception and completes it. Since Mary was immaculately
conceived, that is, conceived in the womb of her mother without the stain of original sin,
she should not have to suffer the ultimate penalty for sin, which is the corruption of the grave. So,
Mary was given the gift of the glorified body of Resurrection, which all of us hope for, because
she was preserved from sin from the moment of her conception. This was so because God had to
prepare a ready and worthy resting place for the Word to be made man. Where Mary has gone,
we hope one day to follow if, like the Blessed Virgin Mary, we remain faithful to all that the Lord
asks of us in this life.
Masses for the Holy Day will be celebrated on Thursday at 6:15 A.M., 8:15 A.M., 12:00 Noon and 7:00 P.M.

MANNA
Visitation Tuition Assistance Program
This past week 30 Visitation Grade School and other organization program families purchased $14,224 in gift certificates
through our MANNA program.
The earned tuition credit for the past week was $675. We thank all our participants and remind so many other families, who
do not participate for a variety of reasons, that all families who are members of Visitation Parish can earn tuition credit for themselves
or another family friend, or to simply help support our school. If you do not need the credit for yourself, there is always
another family in need who would be overwhelmed with your kindness. Everyone should be aware that it does not cost a dime
to participate. As an example of the good you could do, just buy $100 in Jewel, Dominick’s, Caputo’s or Pete’s Fresh Market
($4 is earned), Land’s End/Sears/K–Mart (15% is earned), Fannie May Candy (28% is earned) and Great Clips (19% is earned).
There are over 275 stores and restaurants that support our program. And that’s a lot of choice. Please stop in at one of our
Walk–in Services and see how easy it is to begin.

Dates and starting times for each choir are listed below and on our Parish Website on the Music Ministry tab.
A year–long schedule will be available at the first rehearsal and will also be posted on the Parish Website.
All choirs rehearse in the Choir Room in the Lower Level of the Parish Center.
Adult Choir Sings every Sunday September to June at the 10:00 A.M. Mass and on Feast Days. Rehearsals are
Tuesdays 7:00–9:00 P.M. First rehearsal is Tuesday, September 10, 2013.
High School Chorale Sings three weekend Masses per month and on Feast Days. Rehearsals are Mondays 8:00–9:00 P.M.
First rehearsal is Monday, August 26.
Children’s Choir For students grades 3–8. Sings two weekend Masses per month and on Feast Days. Rehearsals are
Wednesdays 3:30–4:20 P.M. First rehearsal is Wednesday, Sept. 4.
