News from the Canteen @ AcademyAfter some discussion it has been decided to trial a number of new items in the Canteen @ Academy. The sale of fresh fruit has always been an issue that caused a variety of responses; in the past we have offered fruitsalad during the 1 st and 4 th Terms with varying degrees of success, but not the sale of actual whole fruit. However, as ofMonday 7 th August , fresh fruit is being offered for sale. We have started with apples, oranges, mandarins and bananas. The price of the fruit is held at a reasonable price so that as many girls as possible will avail themselves of theopportunity to buy fresh fruit. When a greater variety of fruit becomes available and if the girls demonstrate an interestin buying fruit then we will be able to offer other fruit. Early signs show that the girls are purchasing the fruit we offer.Breakfast has been something we have offered at the Academy for the past 3 years. Toast, hot chocolate, juice andcereal have been available for anyone who feels the need to have something before the school day begins. Anotheritem now available is warm porridge with or without a drizzle of honey. Some parents have expressed concern about the Giant Freddos and Caramellos that are available in the Canteen, butthere are times when the girls feel the need for some chocolate. So in an effort to allow the girls to have somechocolate and to take note of parental concerns, we have decided to stock the standard sized Freddos and Caramellosin a variety of different flavours.Along with the above changes we would like to point out that we have a large variety of fresh food available in theCanteen. Salads, sandwiches and rolls can be ordered for lunch every day, sushi is available 3 days a week and our dailyspecials try to get the mix of food the girls like with a healthy choice (food is not fried – except for fried rice). With thanks,Mrs Elisa Lauretta and Mrs Maria Nigro, Canteen ManagersAn invitation is extended to all past teachers, students and familiesto join us in celebrating the 150 th Anniversary of St Joseph’sCollingwood on Saturday August 25 th commencing with Mass at2.00pm.This will be followed by the launch of our newly complied historybook which will be available for purchase.Refreshments and school tours will be offered.
