CLASS RANK /TOP TEN PERCENT / HIGHEST RANKING STUDENT[For further information, see policies at EIC. Or the <strong>McKinney</strong> ISD Academic Planning Guide located onthe MISD website at http://www.mckinneyisd.net/informaiton/docs/APG_12-1710.pdfCLASS SCHEDULESAll students are expected to attend school for the entire school day and maintain a class/course scheduleto fulfill each period of the day. Exceptions may be made occasionally by the campus principal forstudents in 12 th grade and eHigh who meet specific criteria and receive parental consent to enroll in lessthan a full-day’s schedule. Additionally, exceptions may be made in accordance with applicable federaland state laws and regulations.COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY ADMISSIONSFor two school years following his or her graduation, a district student who graduates in the top tenpercent, and in some cases, the top 25 percent, or his or her class is eligible for automatic admission intofour-year public universities and colleges in Texas if the student:• Completes the Recommended or Advanced/Distinguished Achievement Program: or• Satisfies the ACT College Readiness Benchmarks or earns at least a 1500 out of 2400 on the SAT.In addition, the student must submit a completed application for admission in accordance with thedeadline established by the college or university.The University of Texas at Austin may limit the number of students automatically admitted to 75 percentof the University’s enrollment capacity for incoming resident freshmen. For students who are eligible toenroll in the University of Texas at Austin during the summer or fall <strong>2012</strong> term, the University will beadmitting the top nine percent of the high school’s graduating class who meet the above requirements.Additional applicants will be considered by the University through an independent review process.Should a college or university adopt an admissions policy that automatically accepts the top 25 percent ofa graduation class, the provisions above will also apply to a student ranked in the top 25 percent of his orher class.<strong>Student</strong>s and parents should contact the counselor at their student’s campus for further information aboutautomatic admissions, the application process, and deadlines.[See also the Class Rank/Highest Ranking <strong>Student</strong> information specifically related to how the districtcalculates a student’s rank in class].COLLEGE CREDIT COURSESIn addition to the programs offered by the district, students in grades 9–12 may earn college credit. Formore information, contact the school counselor or the <strong>McKinney</strong> ISD Academic Planning Guide locatedon the MISD website at http:/www.mckinneyisd.net/information/docs/APG_12-17-10.pdf.COMPLAINTS AND CONCERNSUsually student or parent complaints or concerns can be addressed by a phone call or a conference withthe teacher or principal. For those complaints and concerns that cannot be handled so easily, the districthas adopted a standard complaint policy at FNG (LOCAL) in the district’s policy manual. A copy of thispolicy may be obtained in the principal’s or superintendent’s office or on the district’s Web site.In general, the student or parent should submit a written complaint and request a conference with thecampus principal. If the concern is not resolved, the student or parent may contact the appropriate centraladministrator (director, assistant superintendent or the superintendent. If still unresolved, the districtprovides for the complaint to be presented to the board of trustees.- 15 -
