The waiting period begins at your first day of employment.What is the difference between sick leave and safe leave?An employee can use sick leave for the following reas<strong>on</strong>s: An employee’s mental or physical illness, injury or health c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>; an employee’s need formedical diagnosis care or treatment of a mental or physical illness, injury or healthc<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>; or an employee’s need for preventive medical care. An employee providing care for a family member with an illness, injury or medicalappointment, etc.An employee can use safe leave for the following reas<strong>on</strong>s: An employee’s place of business has been closed by order of a public official to limitexposure to an infectious agent, biological toxin or hazardous material. An employee needs to care for a child whose school or place of care has been closed byorder of a public health official to limit exposure to an infectious agent, biological toxin orhazardous material. For reas<strong>on</strong>s related to domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking that affect theemployee or the employee’s family member.Which <strong>employees</strong> are eligible for sick leave and safe leave?All <str<strong>on</strong>g>part</str<strong>on</strong>g>-<str<strong>on</strong>g>time</str<strong>on</strong>g>, <strong>on</strong>-<strong>call</strong>, <str<strong>on</strong>g>seas<strong>on</strong>al</str<strong>on</strong>g> and <str<strong>on</strong>g>temporary</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>employees</strong>.How much paid sick/safe leave can I use in a calendar year?Up to 72 hours.Can I carry over unused paid sick/safe leave to the next calendar year?Up to 72 hours.How do I request use of paid sick/safe leave?For leave that is foreseeable, a written request should be provided at least 10 days ahead of <str<strong>on</strong>g>time</str<strong>on</strong>g>.For unforeseeable leave, the employee must provide notice as so<strong>on</strong> as is practicable.Employees must comply with FMLA or <str<strong>on</strong>g>Leave</str<strong>on</strong>g> of Absence requirements for sick leave l<strong>on</strong>ger thanthree days.


Do I have to provide documentati<strong>on</strong> for use of paid sick leave?You do not need to provide documentati<strong>on</strong> for use of paid sick leave unless you are absent formore than three c<strong>on</strong>secutive days. After three c<strong>on</strong>secutive days, we may require documentati<strong>on</strong>,such as a statement signed by a health care provider stating that sick leave is necessary.Who pays for documenting use of paid sick leave after more than three c<strong>on</strong>secutive days?If your health insurance does not cover this service, the employer and the employee will each pay50% of the cost of documentati<strong>on</strong>. Expenses are limited to the cost of:Services provided by health care professi<strong>on</strong>als.Services of health care facilities.Testing prescribed by health care professi<strong>on</strong>als.Transportati<strong>on</strong> to the locati<strong>on</strong> where such services are provided.If an employee has declined health insurance from an employer, the employee is not entitledto reimbursement for expenses.If an employee has declined health insurance from an employer, the employee is not entitled toreimbursement for expenses.Do you have to provide documentati<strong>on</strong> for use of paid safe leave?,You do not need to provide documentati<strong>on</strong> for use of paid safe leave unless you are absent formore than three c<strong>on</strong>secutive days. After three c<strong>on</strong>secutive days, we may require documentati<strong>on</strong>. For documentati<strong>on</strong> of the closure of a school or place of care, an employee can providenotice of the closure in whatever format the employee received it. For verificati<strong>on</strong> of leave taken for domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking, an employeemay provide a police report; applicable evidence from the court or the prosecuting attorney;documentati<strong>on</strong> from an advocate, attorney, member of the clergy, medical or otherprofessi<strong>on</strong>al; or the employee’s written statement.How can I learn how many hours of paid sick/safe leave I have accrued?Your current balance is included <strong>on</strong> all paystubs.
