Only sinners need a savior. And according to Pelagius sin was not inevitable. In<br />
fact, he believed and taught that there were many who had never committed a<br />
single sin.<br />
He asserted that death was a natural occurrence even to Adam and that Adam<br />
would have eventually died even if he had never sinned… Pelagius made<br />
salvation by grace through faith unnecessary.<br />
A council was called in the North African city of Carthage in 412 A.D. Both sides<br />
were present to argue their case. In the end, the council overwhelmingly agreed<br />
with Augustine. According to the Word of God, man was conceived and<br />
brought forth in sin.<br />
“Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin<br />
my mother conceived me.” Psalm 51:5<br />
Man’s will was not in any way “free” according to the doctrine of Pelagius, but<br />
was instead in bondage to his sinful nature. As a result of the Fall, given the<br />
opportunity to choose between good and evil, God or the Devil, the unregenerate<br />
man would always and freely choose evil and the Devil unless God Himself<br />
intervened.<br />

Paul wrote to the Galatians, "preach to you a gospel besides what<br />
you have received, let him be anathema. (Galatians 1:8).<br />
