On the PoleBy Kim Nelson,PresidentSVR SupportEven though this is the February issue ofthe Drifter, I am writing this in earlyJanuary and I need to make mention of theChristmas and 40th Anniversary Party at theTowe Auto Museum. If you didn't make itthis year you missed a wonderful celebrationand a fitting end to a great SVR year. Myhat goes off to all the people on the organizingcommittee that helped put the party on.They did a great deal of work and it showed. Thanks! Of particular note are the SVRsponsors and vendors that donated doorprizes for Santa and his elves to give out tothe membership. We had over 35 vendorsprovide us with some great gifts for our group. The reason that I want to mention this isbecause we rely on these vendors throughoutthe year, year after year, to support ourdifferent club events. Without their support, both money and gifts, our club wouldn't beable to put on the types of exciting eventsthat you've come to expect. So when you seeone of our vendors, please thank them forthe support they give our club. Let themknow you appreciate what they do for ourclub. And when you're thinking about buyinga new Porsche, getting some maintenancework done on your car, going out to dinneror buying some gifts, use the services of ourvendors and I'm sure it will come back to theclub ten fold. I've included a side-bar with alist of the vendors that supported this yearsChristmas and 40th Anniversary party.2003 Will Be A Busy YearWhile I'm writing this before our Januaryplanning meeting, I can tell you that 2003will be an exciting year for our club. I haveseen the tentative schedule for our region andthe zone and it looks like you could be doingthings with your Zone 7 friends about 52weeks out of the year. It's that event packed.Bill Thorp is working hard to nail down anumber of SVR autocross dates for the year.As many of you will remember, we only hadone autocross last year because we lost oursite at Mather Field. As of this writing wehave several autocross site possibilities andseveral tentative dates set and I know yourPhoto: Bob Peakeboard is committed have having SVR autocrossesthis year. Dwight and LindaMitchell are hard at work planning thisyears CRAB - our clubs 30th. With themove to the Lions Gate Hotel and all theweekend's activities being right on the hotelpremises there will be a lot more time forsocializing and spending time with yourfriends. From my perspective, if I could onlygo to one SVR event this year this would bethe event! Our SVR Zone 7 Concours, headed up by Kent Brandon, will againbe held in conjunction with the ShrinersHospital Concours on June 8th. This wasa wonderful event last year with over 65Porsches entering the Concours andbeautifully displayed on the grass. RikLarson has once again volunteered tohead up the fall Mendocino tour. Thisis a wonderful weekend filled withPorsches, friends, driving and just goodrelaxing fun. And I think that Rik mayhave a few surprises up his sleeve forus this year.Technical Chairperson NeededWe are still looking for a Technical Chairpersonfor the club. This person is responsiblefor disseminating technical informationas well as identifying and coordinating technicalsessions that the membership would beinterested in. The position doesn't take atechnical wizard to do the job because all theinformation needed is available through varioussources including PCA. It does take aperson who is interested in helping out theclub and spending some time coordinatingactivities. So, if any of you are interested orknow someone who might be interestedplease let me or any other board memberknow and we'll take it from there.Plenty to Learn and DoWell, the year is underway and I'm certainlygetting my feet wet in a hurry. I feel veryfortunate that we have so many experiencedpeople in the club that are willing to help meout as I get started. It seems like a lot ofwork for me right now, but I sure it willsmooth out as I come up the learning curve.KimBadges and GoodiesDon’t forget that your new memberpacket had in it a form for membershipbadges, a coupon for $10 off atany SVR event, and a coupon forFIVE Share the Wealth tickets at anyof the dinner meetings. !Thanks goes out to:A&S BMW MotorcycleCarmelita'sCloudsDavid Lawrence EditionsDrivers Jewlery.comFrank's AutomotiveGolfland/SunSplashSVR Goodie StoreFabrication SpecialistsGriot's GarageIPB AutosportJackson RancheriaKarma KreationsLittle River InnMarriott HotelMeguiar'sMemphis BBQMothersNiello PorscheOK TirePorsche Cars - GermanyPorsche Cars North AmericaRacesetterRailroad MuseumRenwood WineryRick's HaciendaSacramento Brewing CompanySummit Industries, Inc.Tire RackTweeksVilla Tascano WineryWine Country MotorsportsWong's Chinese RestaurantYager's Brewery and PubZims AutotechnikZymol4 The Drifter
