<strong>SABC</strong> GROUP EXECUTIVE MEMBERSThe day-to-day running of <strong>the</strong> Corporation is managed andadministered by <strong>the</strong> Executive Committee. It consists of <strong>the</strong> GroupChief Executive Officer, <strong>the</strong> Chief Operations Officer and <strong>the</strong>Chief Financial Officer, and no more than eleven o<strong>the</strong>r members.The Executive Committee is accountable to <strong>the</strong> Board. It appliespolicy and determines strategies and guidelines to achieve <strong>the</strong>objectives of <strong>the</strong> Corporation as determined by <strong>the</strong> Board.The Board delegates certain financial and operational authorityfor <strong>the</strong> management of day-to-day affairs of <strong>the</strong> Corporationto <strong>the</strong> Executive Committee. These powers are set out in <strong>the</strong>Delegation of Authority Framework. This framework is reviewedfrom time to time to ensure that it remains relevant. The Board isresponsible for monitoring management’s exercise of its delegatedauthority on a regular basis.In <strong>the</strong> year under review, <strong>the</strong> Executive Committee comprised<strong>the</strong> following members:1. PHUMELELE NTOMBELA-NZIMANDE(Chief People Officer (CPO)BA (Hons); BA Social Science (Natal)Phumelele Ntombela-Nzimande joined <strong>the</strong> <strong>SABC</strong> from <strong>the</strong>Department of Communications where she served as DeputyDirector-General: Strategic Policy Co-ordination, IntergovernmentalRelations and International Relations. Prior tothat she was Deputy Chairperson of <strong>the</strong> Commission on GenderEquality. As CPO she oversees <strong>the</strong> Corporate Affairs and HumanCapital Services Divisions of <strong>the</strong> organisation, including functionssuch as International Affairs, Corporate Communications andPublic Affairs. She serves on a number of Boards and AdvisoryCouncils, including <strong>the</strong> Human Sciences Research Council and <strong>the</strong>Council of <strong>the</strong> University of KwaZulu-Natal.6. RICHARD WAGHORN(Chief Technology Officer)MBA (Henley Management College, UK); BA (Hons) Geography andPublic Media (University of Leeds, UK)Richard Waghorn is <strong>the</strong> <strong>SABC</strong>’s Chief Technology Officer. Prior tojoining <strong>the</strong> <strong>SABC</strong> on 2 March 2009, Mr Waghorn worked for <strong>the</strong>BBC in London for over 10 years where he was responsible for <strong>the</strong>broadcast distribution of <strong>the</strong> BBC’s television and radio serviceson digital and analogue platforms. Mr Waghorn led <strong>the</strong> BBC’spreparations for digital switchover, directing <strong>the</strong> work on <strong>the</strong>implementation of <strong>the</strong> spectrum frequency plan and switchoverbroadcast infrastructure. In 2002 Mr Waghorn was <strong>the</strong> projectmanager for <strong>the</strong> launch of Freeview, <strong>the</strong> UK’s successful digitalterrestrial television (DTT) platform and in 2007 was appointeda Board Director of Freesat, <strong>the</strong> BBC and ITV’s free-to-air HDsatellite television platform which was launched in May 2008.7. PEARL LUTHULI(Group Executive: PCS)Senior Executive Programme (Witwatersrand and Harvard BusinessSchool); BA Communication and Business Administration (WilliamPaterson, New Jersey, USA); Certificate in Television and RadioBroadcasting Management (USTTI, USA); Certificate in Journalismand Public Relations (Africa Literature Centre, Zambia)Ms Luthuli joined <strong>the</strong> <strong>SABC</strong> on 1 October 2005 as Chief Executiveof Public Commercial Broadcasting Services. She is responsiblefor directing <strong>the</strong> Corporation‘s commercial television and radioservices.Pearl Luthuli has extensive experience in <strong>the</strong> media industry,having worked as a journalist for <strong>the</strong> World and Post newspapers,as <strong>the</strong> editor of True Love magazine and as publisher for Tributeand De Kat magazines. She previously worked for <strong>the</strong> <strong>SABC</strong> asCorporate Affairs and Publicity Manager for CCV TV. In 2004,she established, directed and published Enterprising Women, amagazine on <strong>the</strong> empowerment of women in <strong>the</strong> first 10 years of<strong>the</strong> new democracy.She has served on several Boards, including those of MoriboLeisure, South African Tourism, South African National Library,Landelahni Human Resources Group, International Women‘sForum SA and International Women‘s Development (USA).
