MARCH/APRIL 2008Sicilians in TampaUnfolding the JourneyMembers of the Italian Club are invited to a special unveiling ofSicilians in Tampa – Unfolding the Journey, a new exhibit at the YborCity Museum State Park. The unveiling, which precedes the publicopening during the weekend of Festa Italiana, will be held in theMuseum Garden on Friday, March 28, 5 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Guests willenjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of old Sicily. The program, withVince Pardo as emcee, includes dancers and musicians from Agrigento, Sicily, and the music of RayChiaramonte. Mayor Pam Iorio and other dignitaries will be on hand to officially open the exhibit. SumptuousSicilian appetizers and desserts will be served, along with Peroni beer and Bola wine. Attendees will be the firstto tour the Museum exhibit. After the tour, all will be invited to continue their cultural odyssey that evening byattending a presentation of Italian cinema at the Italian Club.Artifacts and materials for the exhibit were collected from members of the Italian Club, Ybor City MuseumSociety, Sons of Italy, the University of South Florida Collections Department, and the local community. Inconjunction with this exhibit, several cultural and academic events will be held at the Italian Club and othervenues throughout the remainder of the year. The committee has already planned a symposium, typical Siciliandinner, genealogy workshop, presentation and discussion of Sicilian dialects, and wine-making demonstration.These events are presented in partnership that with the Italian Club, Ybor City Museum Society, Sons of Italy,and many community sponsors including the YCDC and AT&T Yellow Pages.Please RSVP for the unveiling no later than Friday, March 21 at sicilian@ybormuseum.org or (813) 247-1434.PAGE 20
