The removal of wastew<strong>at</strong>er <strong>and</strong> stormw<strong>at</strong>er inextreme situ<strong>at</strong>ions must happen when required. This required th<strong>at</strong> staff were present <strong>at</strong> thetre<strong>at</strong>ment plant every day of the week, all year round.Previously, the warning system <strong>at</strong> one of the local pumpingst<strong>at</strong>ions consisted of a lamp placed <strong>high</strong> up on a lamppost,<strong>and</strong> a reaction to a warning depended on the lamp beingseen <strong>and</strong> reported! Now, wireless <strong>transmission</strong> sends thefull register of pump pit activity every ten minutes tothe SCADA system <strong>at</strong> Bjerringbro Wastew<strong>at</strong>er Tre<strong>at</strong>mentPlant.The terrain cabinet <strong>at</strong> the Engvej Øst local pumping st<strong>at</strong>ion. The Grundfos solutionUsing the terrain cabinet <strong>at</strong> the Engvej Øst local pumpingst<strong>at</strong>ion as an example, the robust cabinet includes a meter<strong>and</strong> a sewage pump controller(Dedic<strong>at</strong>ed Controls) with a CIM 250 module which has aGSM/ GPRS modem with its own IP address <strong>and</strong> mobilephone number. The use of a SIM card to establish thewireless connection makes install<strong>at</strong>ion extremely easy,as the GSM/GPRS oper<strong>at</strong>or delivers the communic<strong>at</strong>ioninfrastructure. D<strong>at</strong>a is communic<strong>at</strong>ed wirelessly every10 minutes to the central SCADA system. In an alarmsitu<strong>at</strong>ion, the SCADA system ensures correct alarmh<strong>and</strong>ling. Winpager software – a log program for SCADAon the computer <strong>at</strong> the tre<strong>at</strong>ment plant – sets the schedule,ensuring the alarm is sent to the correct person(s) <strong>at</strong> theright time, according to 5 pre-determined levels of alarmsitu<strong>at</strong>ions <strong>and</strong> response times.The <strong>d<strong>at</strong>a</strong> transmitted includes the main st<strong>at</strong>us of pumppit <strong>and</strong> pumps <strong>and</strong> you can request active alarms <strong>and</strong>warnings. The types of alarms include sewage overf<strong>low</strong>,<strong>low</strong> f<strong>low</strong>, dry running, undervoltage, blocked motor/pump,overtemper<strong>at</strong>ure, klixon, <strong>and</strong> others th<strong>at</strong> can be adaptedaccording to your needs. Currently, there are about 200of these cabinets installed in Denmark with Dedic<strong>at</strong>edControls transmitting wirelessly via the CIM 250 module.The OutcomeThe immedi<strong>at</strong>e benefits of the wireless communic<strong>at</strong>ionoffered by the CIM 250 arise from the system showing howa pumping st<strong>at</strong>ion is running over an entire day. This helpssave time <strong>and</strong> money by reducing the need for manualinspections <strong>and</strong> helping make better planning possible. Intime, this means gre<strong>at</strong>er <strong>reliability</strong> from better preventivemaintenance. Time is saved with alarms.
