MERTHYR TYDFIL ORIENTATION STRATEGY
Background
Merthyr Tydfil, as the epicentre of the County Borough, has a proud and
fascinating history with a growing role as a tourist destination.
However a study by Urbed titled ‘The Big Heart of Merthyr Tydfil’ highlighted
the lack of orientation material available to the users of the town and the
general lack of identity.
Merthyr Tydfil CBC appointed a team of consultants headed by Philip Cave
Associates in order to address these issues.
consultations. Design Development – final design proposals, consultation
Stage 3 Construction Specification/Detailed Design – full performance
specification with costing
Consultations
Stage 1 consultation was a briefing meeting with the Steering Group.
Stage 2 involved two meetings with the Steering Group, one with the
Town Centre Partnership, and one Public Meeting/Discussion evening.
The proposals also went on public exhibition at a ‘roadshow’ and then
in the Civic Centre
