Scott was inspired to playguitar as a result of attending a Jimi Hendrix concert in Tampa, Florida when hewas 12 years old. His father took him to that concert which ended up changinghis life, guiding him to live his dream. Inspired by Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, and yes, Prince, he managed to meet up with Buddy Guy and jam with himfrom time to time. Then one day out of the blue, Holt received a phone callasking if he would want to play in Buddy Guy’s band. What sane personwould turn that down? After touring with Buddy Guy worldwide for 10 years,Scott had released his second solo album Dark of the Night, which featuredmusicians from both Jimi Hendrix’s and Stevie Ray Vaughan’s bands, and gotpeople’s attention. Scott went on to release From Lettsworth to Legend: ATribute to Buddy Guy. His first release, “Messing with the Kid,” has someexcellent guitar work on it, but my personal favorite has to be “Chipped FrontTooth.” Scott is a great vocalist and lead guitarist that everyone should makean attempt to see live. He refers to the blues as “a supreme form of prayer.” I’veseen him in Hampton Roads twice, and was surprised at the low attendance atboth J.M. Randalls in Williamsburg and the Tap House in Norfolk. I’m sure thatthe first I ever heard of Scott Holt was on the radio station 88.7 one afternoon. As usual, I promptly called Jerry Carter to find out some details about thealbum and the artist, and headed over to Birdland to pick up the CD.I’ll see you around town at an NBN event in the near future.Jeff Karr, 2012 Presidentpresident@natchelblues.orgJULY/AUGUST 2012 • www.NatchelBlues.orgCONTENTSAd Rates..................................................... 4Membership Discounts.............................. 4Interview with Music Makers .................... 5Blues Heaven ....................................... 6, 7Blues CD Reviews.......................... 8, 16, 17July/August Blues Birthdays...................... 8River City Blues IBC Winners................... 9July Calendar.............................................. 9Blues At The Beach Lineup......................10Blues Around Town...................................11Blues At The Beach Volunteering.............11Blues Interview with Larry Berwald..........12First Friday Concerts.................................13New Members............................................13Company Members...................................13Corporate Sponsors..................................132012 Blues Music Awards Winners ....... 142012 Blues Music Awards ...................... 15Weekly Blues Jams...................................16NBN Mission..............................................16Blues Radio Shows...................................17Blues Bands in Hampton Roads..............18Newsletter Deadlines.................................18Membership Form.....................................18Recipient of theKeeping The BluesAlive Award forBlues Organizationof the Year 1998CD WINNERSYou may be a winner!Random monthly drawings pickedfrom the hat of New & RenewingMembers receive a FREE Blues CD.MAYRichard NoyesJUNEJerry Carter3
