The Institute has sent out brochures and DVDs to Canadianschools advising educators to teach students that human activity is not the cause of globalwarming. It is their belief that the sun is responsible for the higher temperatures. Theybelieve that people are not getting a balanced view of global warming. However, aspokesperson for the Sierra Club of Canada says that the Heartland Institute has it allwrong. They do not believe that there are two sides to this issue. In 2007 an internationalgroup of governments and scientists, The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change,met to discuss global warming. They concluded that there is a 90% probability that it hasbeen caused by humans. Greenpeace USA has criticized the Heartland Institute’sviewpoint noting that since 1998, the Institute received $791,000 funding from Exxon-Mobil.31
