Training, Retention and DevelopmentAt<strong>to</strong>rneys succeed with training and personal andprofessional development opportunities. At <strong>Baker</strong><strong>Hostetler</strong>, these opportunities begin early in anassociate’s career and continue through a partner’scareer.Associate AcademyEvery first-year associate is invited <strong>to</strong> attend our AssociateAcademy within six months of joining the Firm. Frombusiness development and communication skills <strong>to</strong> duediligence and pre-trial preparation, the Associate Academyprovides targeted training for our first-year at<strong>to</strong>rneys, whilegiving them the opportunity <strong>to</strong> meet and network withpeers from other offices.Mid-Level TrainingDuring their third or fourth year, associates participate ina multi-day program. This advanced training focuses onthe practice group and the industries it serves, <strong>to</strong> furtherdevelop the depth of knowledge and understandingassociates have of the practice area they have chosen.Men<strong>to</strong>ring ProgramThe men<strong>to</strong>ring program matches first-year and lateralassociates with a men<strong>to</strong>r who assists with training anddevelopment. Associates are advised of their progresson a regular basis which ensures they have the feedbackthey need <strong>to</strong> move forward in their careers. Evaluationsare coupled with face-<strong>to</strong>-face discussions regardingprofessional development.4th-Year Coaching ProgramAll associates are assigned a senior-level partner as acoach during their fourth year. The coach acts as a rolemodel for enhancing professional development by passingon knowledge, skills and values and providing adviceand counsel in improving the associate’s legal skills.Additionally, the coach acts as a support person by helping<strong>to</strong> develop social contacts and community involvementduring this year-long program.
