8 / Annual Report 20102010 SEASONSThe TOWER season of From Here to ThereArtistically without doubt one of the most successful triple bills the RNZB has staged.Led by a strong visual campaign of six striking images communicating the concept of ajourney – Here to There. The quality of the show and visual marketing material certainlyachieved the objective of raising the question “Why wasn’t the RNZB in the NZIFA?”. Theshow content and campaign appearance enhanced public perceptions of the RNZB as aprogressive 21st century arts organisation. Potential sponsors saw both the product andthe marketing campaign as very classy, contemporary, relevant and of high quality. Mostpleasing was the success in the Auckland market, reaching 100% of budgeted seats sold. The Meridian season of CarmenThis was a return season of Northern Ballet Theatre’s production of Carmen. Acontemporary dance piece the season was communicated as dramatic dance theatre, highin energy and emotion. Playing up the “blockbuster” elements of the show enabled us tosell the production as the hot ticket in town. Season sponsors Meridian enjoyed selling theshow as “Passionate Seductive Sexy, just like us”.Romeo & Juliet tour to AustraliaThis two centre tour of Christopher Hampson’s Romeo & Juliet to Canberra and Wollongongwas a sell-out. How fantastic to be involved with venues who were willing to take a risk onNew Zealand product. The tour returned a small surplus and is certainly a model for futuretours. It is hoped that the story of our box office success will spread, encouraging otherAustralian venues to take a punt on us.The NutcrackerThe Nutcracker, produced and choreographed by Gary Harris, was absolutely the right showfor him to bow out on. It reflected his great wit and humour - a tale with a twist – andaudiences loved it. Building on the profile achieved during The Secret Lives of Dancers thisreturn season exceeded box office targets by 20%.Amanda SkoogGeneral ManagerThe Royal New Zealand Ballet
