(434(44they shall abide. It shall be sufficient for them.God has rejected them, and theirs is a lastingtorment. They enjoyedtheir share. And you have been enjoying yourshare, just as those who preceded you enjoyed theirshare; and you have been indulging in idle talkjust like they did. Their works have come tonothing in this world and shall come to nothing inthe life to come. They are indeed the losers. (69)Have they not heard the histories of those whopreceded them, such as Noah’s people, ‘Ād andThamūd, and Abraham’s people, and the folk ofMadyan and the ruined cities? Their messengerscame to them with clear evidence of the truth. Itwas not God who wronged them; it was they whowronged themselves. (70)The believers, men and women, are friends to oneanother: they enjoin what is right and forbid whatis wrong; they attend to their prayers, and paytheir zakāt, and obey God and His Messenger.It is on these that God will have mercy. Surely,God is Almighty, Wise.
