ICDA Meet the ICDA in TaiyuanSep.11, 2012Welcome address ofMr. Philippe Richard - Secretary General of the ICDAFirst of all, I would like to thank Mr. Gao Xiangming, the GM of TISCO, Mr. ChaiZhiyong, the Vice-President of Shanxi Taigang Stainless Steel and Pr. Li Cheng, the honoredChairman of the Chinese Stainless Steel Council (CSSC) who are supporting our event.After the celebration of the 60 th anniversary of China Stainless Steel industrialization heldsuccessfully here on July 25, ICDA: the International Chromium Development Association isvery pleased to organize in Taiyuan City its 2 nd Chinese workshop on chrome ore after Beijinglast year in October 2011.ICDA is also happy to celebrate 60 years of cooperation in China between chromium andstainless steel industries. I am sure that I don’t need to remind you how much chromium isimportant in the composition of stainless steel and of course that without chrome, there is nostainless steel!China’s stainless steel industry grew out of nothing and expanded from small to large. Atthe same time, chromium industry developed the needful resources to respond to the marketdemand.Our industries are very close together: 94% of total chrome is used in metallurgicalapplications of which around 78% going into stainless steel. 2010 was a year record for stainlesssteel. It was also a year record for both chrome ore and ferrochrome production. It was againexactly the same for 2011!Stainless steel market is now facing an austere situation. It is hoped that present andfuture challenges will drive a healthy and sustainable development. Stainless steel is very mucha material for the future.
