However, “UCLA gotthat last bite,” Marcos de Niza coach Roy Lopezstated.Our All-State linebacker DerekCraig was recruited and signed byNorthern Arizona University. Derekis also the State Champion in wrestling at the 225 lb weight class, living in MdN history as his picturehangs on our “wall of fame.” DerekDerek Craig reports that attending NAU mean somuch to him and his family whoknew how hard he worked to achieve this goal. Mauriece will be majoring in businesscommunications, but his biggest dream is tomake it to the NFL.In fact, all of the boys were excited to meet each otheron the field as friends and as rivals. Their high schoolexperiences have prepared them for this next rite ofpassage—attending college and playing football. So much has been happening that I would like to bring to your attention. Our studentsregistered in January for the 2013-2014 school year and will go through the first round of their AIMS testing in February. If your student has not yetregistered, please encourage them to do so. If your student has not taken their AIMS or have not met the AIMs, please call us immediately.I also want to take a moment to apologize for the technical issues that occurred concerning our district’s inability to email parents during an emergencysituation, like a “lock-down”. We believe we have addressed the issues and are ready to move forward. Please do not be surprised if in a fewweek when you receive an email testing this system. This email may accompany a “mock lock-down.” I want to reiterate that the safety of our studentsand staff will always be the number priority in our district.Congratulations are in order to DEREK CRAIG! Only parents orlegal guardians may excuse absences. In order for an absence to beexcused, the parent/legal guardian must call the Attendance Officewithin 24 hours of the absence. A.I.M.S...all about itA.I.M.S. TESTINGPass the test!In order to be 2013 graduates, students must pass Arizona’s Instrumentto Measure Standards, the state-mandated reading, writing and mathtests entitled AIMS. AIMS Augmentation may be used to reach a passingscore in order for seniors to graduate. For the firsttime we have been invited to compete in Washington D.C. at the NationalCompetition. After placing 2 nd at State, as a wildcard, the ArizonaFoundation for Legal Services and Education invited Marcos to join Coronadel Sol in representing Arizona. We couldn’t be more honored orproud of our students. The We the People competition requires studentsto display their knowledge of the constitution in front of a panel ofjudges, made up of lawyers, educators, and judges from various courts.They are scored on their abilities to apply historical documents to theConstitution, as well as, the Constitution to current events.The competition is April 25-April 30. Students will have an opportunity tovisit the Hub of Government with like-minded students from all over thecountry. The competition is being held at George Mason University,Fairfax, Virginia for the first 2 days and on Capitol Hill the final day. Thecost per student is $1,700.
