Board certified physicians and allied providers have participated in a voluntary process that involves
evaluation of their knowledge and skills beyond what is required for them to become licensed
physicians. The standards for board certification, such as the type of evaluation, and whether
additional education and training are required, vary depending on the certifying board.
The BC symbol in this directory refers to specialties recognized by one of the following organizations:

Fellowship trained physicians have completed a fellowship, the period of medical training a physician
may undertake after completing a specialty training program, are known as fellows. Fellows are
capable of acting as an attending physician or consultant physician in the generalist field in which
they were trained. After completing a fellowship in the relevant sub-specialty, the physician is
permitted to practice without direct supervision by other physicians in that sub-specialty.
Physicians or allied providers that have passed evaluations specific to an area of expertise but are
not represented by one of the organizations listed above.

Physicians’ Health Network (PHN) includes more than 150 local, primary and specialty
