PoliciesTransfer CreditsTransfer Credits may be granted for Ryerson students registered ina G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education certificateprogram for courses successfully completed at another accreditedpost-secondary institution upon registration in a certificate.Transfer Credit PolicyTransfer Credit refers to the course equivalencies granted towards aprogram of study based on acceptable academic degree/diploma levelcourse work from an accredited post-secondary institution.Transfer Credits are only assessed for Ryerson degree or certificatestudents. Transfer Credit Applications will be accepted after a studenthas received registration confirmation into a certificate program.Continuing education certificate students may only apply forTransfer Credits for courses listed within the certificate they arecurrently registered in.Transfer Credit is recorded on the Ryerson academic record as CRT(credit) and will not be used in the calculation of a student’s cumulativegrade point average. Please refer to the sections on Grading Systemand Grade Reports for more information.For granted Transfer Credit(s), it is the student’s responsibility toensure that the course(s) is dropped from their current/future courseintention so that course load and payment of fees are accuratelycalculated.Courses from accredited universities are considered for TransferCredit when successfully completed with a grade of 60 percent orhigher (where 60 percent equals ‘C-’).Courses from accredited colleges and institutions of technologymay be considered for Transfer Credit when completed with a grade70 percent or higher (where 70 percent equals ‘B-’).Courses must have been taken within the past ten years to beeligible for Transfer Credit.Performance designations other than letter or percentage gradesare not acceptable for Transfer Credit, (e.g., exam, CRT, passed, etc.).Transfer Credits are not granted on the basis of a StatutoryDeclaration or Affidavit submitted in lieu of officially certifiedacademic transcripts.No more that a total of 50 percent of the program’s curriculumrequirements may consist of Transfer Credits, Challenge Credits, andcredits granted on a Letter of Permission.Please note: Students do not need to apply for Transfer Credit forequivalent courses taken through The Chang School or in a previousRyerson program. Students who completed similar courses througha previous Ryerson program may apply for course substitution. Referto the section on Graduation or the Curriculum Advising website formore information.Applying for Transfer CreditsChang School students are eligible to apply for Transfer Creditsonce they have received confirmation of registration in a certificateprogram. If you are not registered in a certificate program, refer tothe section on Registration in a Certificate Program for applicationinstructions.Detailed Transfer Credit application instructions are availableonline at www.ryerson.ca/transfercredits as well as on the reverseside of the “Transfer Credit Application Form”. Certificate programstudents can apply using the paper-based application form (fillablePDF), available online at www.ryerson.ca/currentstudents/forms/.Complete one application form and attach a detailed course/teaching outline for each course you are using to apply for TransferCredit. Official transcripts, in a sealed envelope, from the issuinginstitution must be included with applications if they were notpreviously submitted to Ryerson. Incomplete applications will not beassessed and result in a delay in the processing of the application.Return your complete application in person at Enrollment Servicesand Student Records, located in the Podium, lower ground floor,room POD70, 350 Victoria Street or mail it to Ryerson University,Transfer Credit Unit, 350 Victoria Street, room POD363, Toronto,Ontario M5B 2K3.Transfer Credit decisions will be available via ‘View Transfer CreditReport’ on RAMSS; please allow at least four to six weeks for processing.GradesGrade AppealsStudents may appeal a grade in a course when they believe thatcircumstances beyond their control have impacted their performancein the course. The grounds for appeal are: medical, compassionate,course management, and prejudice. However, students are obligatedto notify and consult with either the course instructor or programdirector, depending on the situation, as soon as circumstances arisethat are likely to affect academic performance. Failure to do so mayjeopardize an appeal made at a later date.To appeal a final grade, continuing education students must followthe Academic Appeals Process and complete the Grade Appeal Formavailable at www.ryerson.ca/currentstudents/essr/appeals, or at TheG. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education office, HeaslipHouse, 297 Victoria Street. Completed appeals must be submitted toThe G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education office, HeaslipHouse, 297 Victoria Street, within the deadline to submit appeals.If a student believes that there is an error in the grading of a test,assignment, or exam, they must contact the instructor to discuss theissue within 10 working days of the date when the graded work isreturned to the class.
