PoliciesStudent InformationConfidentiality of Student RecordsIn choosing to pursue a post-secondary education, students acceptthe <strong>University</strong>’s right to collect and evaluate records of their academicperformance and other pertinent personal information. At the sametime, the student’s right to privacy requires that such information beused and stored in a manner consistent with the confidential nature ofthe information involved.In recognition of students’ right to privacy, all information obtainedabout students is kept strictly confidential except for the following,which will be confirmed in response to individual requests:• the surname and initials of all students• the program and level or course of enrollment of all students• the full names of all graduates• the names of the certificates, diplomas, or degrees obtained and inwhat program, as well as the date of graduation• the names of recipients of awards and scholarships• if authorized in writing by the student, the student’s address and/or telephone numberOnline Identity/Email PolicyAll continuing education students are required to activate andmaintain a <strong>Ryerson</strong> <strong>University</strong> email account which shall be anofficial means by which they will receive <strong>University</strong> communications.See Establishment of Student Email Accounts for Official <strong>University</strong>Communication for further details.For information on activating your <strong>Ryerson</strong> Online Identity and gainingaccess to your <strong>Ryerson</strong> email account, visit www.ryerson.ca/accounts.Update Your RecordsIf your name, street address, email address, or home/businesstelephone number changes after you enroll, you must let us knowas soon as possible. Your up-to-date record allows us to notify youpromptly of a cancelled course or class session. Students enrolled indistance education courses will receive an email confirming theirenrollment; therefore, it is especially important that your currentemail address is correct and valid.Name <strong>Chang</strong>eIf you legally change your name, or your name is incorrect/incompletein <strong>Ryerson</strong>’s records, it is your responsibility to notify us. <strong>The</strong> name onyour <strong>Ryerson</strong> record is the name which will appear on your transcriptand your graduation document.To change your name in <strong>Ryerson</strong>’s records, you must submitthe Personal Data <strong>Chang</strong>e Form, found online at www.ryerson.ca/currentstudents/forms/index.html, to Student Records, alongwith supporting documentation in the form of: Certificate of Birth,Passport, Certificate of Marriage, or Legal Name <strong>Chang</strong>e Certificate.Name changes cannot be submitted online through RAMSS or by fax.Note: Only students currently attending <strong>Ryerson</strong> may file a requestfor a name change.Personal DataYou can update your personal data in the following ways:• online at my.ryerson.ca (RAMSS – the self-serve system allows youto update your address, email address, and phone numbers)• by faxing a completed Address <strong>Chang</strong>e Form to EnrollmentServices and Student Records at 416.979.5236• in person at Enrollment Services and Student Records, Podium,lower ground floor, room POD64<strong>Chang</strong>es will not be accepted by phone or email.If you have applied to graduate with a certificate, all informationand correspondence pertaining to your graduation will be mailed tothe address specified on your Application to Graduate. If your homeand/or mailing address changes prior to the convocation ceremonies,please make the changes online at my.ryerson.ca. You will not receiveyour letter of graduation eligibility and your invitation to convocationif your address is incorrect.26 For the most current information, see our website at www.ryerson.ca/ce.
