SCU Young Teachers’ Overseas Training and<br />
International Exchange Program held at ASU<br />
2011 SCU Young Teachers Language<br />
Training and Academic Exchange<br />
Program was launched at ASU<br />
on Jan. 8 th , 2012. 24 teachers from the<br />
science and engineering departments<br />
and the Business School participated in<br />
a four-week training and academic ex-<br />
change program at Arizona State Univer-<br />
sity (ASU).<br />
This project is an important compo-<br />
nent of SCU Faculty International Train-<br />
ing Project. By sending young faculty<br />
members to study overseas, SCU hopes<br />

High-level People to People Dia-<br />
logue Forum (HDDP) was held on<br />
April 18, 2012 in Brussels. The announce-<br />
ment for HDDP was made at the 14 th EU-<br />
China Summit in February, 2012 in an<br />
attempt to boost China-EU friendly rela-<br />
tions. State Councilor Liu Yandong at-<br />
tended the forum and delivered a speech<br />
at the opening ceremony. Vice Minister<br />
of Education Hao Ping, officials from the<br />
General Office, State Council, Ministry<br />
of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs,<br />
Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Sci-<br />
ence and Technology, and the presidents<br />
of over a dozen top Chinese universities<br />
also attended HDDP.<br />

this project and made<br />
elaborate preparation and<br />
warm reception. Besides<br />
providing the 24 SCU<br />
teachers with professional<br />
language training, ASU<br />
also organized academic symposiums,<br />
course-auditing, and academic exchange<br />
activities. Participants took this valuable<br />
of Medicine, SCU, was invited to attend<br />
HPPD. He was among the few visiting<br />
Chinese scholars to have received the<br />
invitation. At the forum and in the so-<br />
cial function afterwards, Dr. Li engaged<br />
in lively discussions with the other par-<br />
ticipants, talking with young European<br />
scholars about the present and future<br />
of China-EU relations and discussing<br />
with the presidents of Chinese univer-<br />
sities ways to attract European students<br />
to study in China. He also introduced<br />
the history and spectacular success of<br />
SCU to scholars from China and Eu-<br />
rope.<br />
Dr. Li said that the most important<br />
thing he learned at the forum was that,<br />
faced with the inevitable trend of in-<br />
creasing cultural exchange, SCU should<br />
opportunity to build a good foundation<br />
for international scientific and academic<br />
exchange and research.<br />

State Councilor Liu announced at the<br />
forum that in the next couple of years<br />
China would offer scholarships to over<br />
30,000 students from Europe. Dr. Li<br />
believed that SCU had great strengths<br />
in many areas. The school enjoyed gen-<br />
erous government support from Proj-<br />
ect 985 and Project 211, two national<br />
education projects aimed at boosting<br />
the international reputation of top Chi-<br />
nese universities. In addition, SCU had<br />
a comprehensive range of disciplines<br />
and multidisciplinary programs thanks<br />
to its cultural heritage of tolerance and<br />
comprehensiveness. Therefore, more and<br />
more young people from Europe should<br />
visit SCU for study or exchange.
