from Centre County, PA, settled 1806; Henry Shoch settled in 1815 per Deed Book C,page 120, with Judy Schoch.The town of Leistville is located in Saltcreek Township in the southeast corner ofPickaway County, Ohio at the intersection of Ohio Routes 56 and 159. Jacob Leistsettled in Leistville by 1820; he married Elizabeth, daughter of Jacob Shoemaker. Fourmiles northeast of Leistville on Route 159 is the town of Tarlton on the border ofPickaway and Fairview counties. This village was originally settled and calledNewellstown in 1801, and was probably the first settlement in Pickaway County, Ohio.The famous Zane's Trace passed through both Leistville and Tarlton as well, and wasthe major route between Maysville, Kentucky and Wheeling, Virginia (now WestVirginia).Source: Saltcreek Township, Pickaway County, Ohio, Church History & Records.Jerusalem Church, or the Stumpf Church as it is frequently styled, was organized byRevs. George Wise and Jacob Leist about the year 1820 as a German Reformedsociety. Rev. Jacob Leist was one of the earliest of the pioneer preachers of this region.He came to Salt Creek township in its early settlement, began preaching soon after hisarrival and continued in the ministry for a great many years. He proved a valuableaccession to the settlement and during the long period of his ministry was highlyesteemed for his moral worth. He married Elizabeth Shoemaker, daughter of JudgeJacob Shoemaker and fixed his residence where Leistville now stands, there residinguntil his death. The church services were held in a schoolhouse, located in thenortheast corner of section 26, until 1831, when a brick house of worship was built. Thepresent, neat, brick church was erected in 1877 at a cost of $3,000. Rev. Henry Kingand Rev.
