The BCA Academy of the Built Environment is the education and researcharm of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), Singapore.Founded in 1984 as the Construction Industry Training Centre (CITC),its main role was the training of craft workers for the rapidly growingconstruction industry. In 1994, the Centre was renamed the ConstructionIndustry Training Institute (CITI) and was moved to its purpose-builtcampus at Braddell Road. CITI was restructured and transformed tobecome the BCA Academy in 2007. Whilst the training of craftsmenfor the construction industry remains a key focus, the BCA Academynow takes on the new challenge of equipping professionals, managers,executives and technicians with the knowledge, skills and competencyto operate effectively in a technologically advanced and modern builtenvironment sector.Today, the BCA Academy is probably the only institution in the worldthat provides a full range of training and education programmes tailoredto meet the diverse needs of the building industry at all levels.A recent benchmarking studyconducted by the National RecognitionInformation Centre for the UnitedKingdom (NARIC) revealed that ourdiplomas are comparable to the localpolytechnics, equivalent to Australiandiplomas and closely aligned with firstyear UK degree programmes.Go to www.bcaa.edu.sg/naric.aspx fordetails on the benchmarking study.2
