Adrian Dunne is Deputy Director - Ground Operations for<br />

Ryanair. Before Ryanair, he worked at Aer Lingus.<br />

Ms Aida Berhamovic, Portfolio Leader,<br />

BAA, UK<br />

Aida has recently taken up the role as Portfolio Leader for the<br />

Heathrow Eastern Campus, with responsibility for the new<br />

T2A development. As Western Campus Portfolio Leader she<br />

was responsible for overseeing the design of all major projects<br />

at Heathrow <strong>Terminal</strong>s 3, 4 and 5.<br />

Mr Al Lyons, Principal, Arup, USA<br />

Al has more than 25 years’ experience in the planning,<br />

design, procurement, commissioning and optimisation of<br />

technology systems and processes typically found in the built<br />

environment. He has led design commissioning and/or<br />

operational readiness programmes for several successful<br />

airport projects including the International Arrivals <strong>Terminal</strong><br />

at JFK in NY, Toronto Pearson Airport and Dubai<br />

International Airport. He is presently working with the US<br />

National Academy of Science Transportation Research Board<br />

Airport Cooperative Research Program on a study of airport<br />

terminal facility activation techniques, with the goal of<br />

identifying what makes some terminal openings successful<br />

and others less so.<br />

Mr Alan Craig, Head of International<br />

Liaison, UK Border Agency, UK<br />

Alan’s career in border control has been extensive. He has<br />

undertaken a range of operational, policy and managerial<br />

posts in the UK, and has worked overseas supervising visa<br />

operations. For 18 years Alan has been closely involved in<br />

international work and this is now his primary responsibility.<br />

He represents the UK Border Agency at the International<br />

Civil Aviation Organisation, and is a member of its<br />

Facilitation Panel. He is a delegate to the IATA <strong>Passenger</strong><br />

Facilitation Working Group and the IATA Control Authorities<br />

Working Group, as well as currently holding the chair of the<br />

European Civil Aviation Conference immigration sub-group.<br />

Mr Alec Gilbert, Head of Process<br />

Engineering, BAA Heathrow, UK<br />

Alec Gilbert is Head of Process Engineering at Heathrow,<br />

where he leads a team improving the passenger processes<br />

through the £4bn capital programme that is transforming the<br />

airport. A Master Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma, he previously<br />

led European Business Process Improvement and<br />

Commercial Improvement change programmes in<br />

multinational manufacturing businesses, based on a broad<br />

commercial background with experience in business strategy<br />

and leadership, business acquisition and integration, business<br />

development, sales and marketing, customer service and<br />

purchasing.<br />

Mr Alexandre Bradley, Development<br />

Leader, BAA, UK<br />

Alexandre Bradley has extensive experience in airport<br />

masterplanning; consultation: regulation/airline/ACC; airport<br />

baggage/security systems design; major project development,<br />

management, business case evaluation. He is BAA Heathrow<br />

and Stansted Major Projects Development Leader. Other<br />

highlights of his career include BAA Group Airport Planning<br />

Stansted - <strong>Terminal</strong> Planning Manager SG2; International Air<br />

Transport Association (IATA) - Manager Airport Planning;<br />

BAA Group Technical Services Gatwick Airport. Alexandre is<br />

Mr Alexis Hernot, Marketing Vice<br />

President, IER, France<br />

Alexis Hernot is a native of France. He graduated from Ecole<br />

Polytechnique and holds an MBA from INSEAD. He spent<br />

several years in management consulting and as head of<br />

strategic marketing in a global high-tech company before<br />

moving to IER, where he is Vice President in charge of<br />

marketing and strategy. IER is the leading technology<br />

supplier for self-service solutions in the air and rail<br />

transportation and postal industries.<br />

Ms Amy Weaver, Manager, Southwest<br />

Airlines, USA<br />

Amy started with Southwest Airlines in July 2000 in the<br />

Schedule Planning department. In May 2002 she made the<br />

switch to the Properties (Airport Affairs) department, where<br />

she has led multiple lease negotiations with airports and<br />

participated in numerous capital programmes. Most recently<br />

Amy led the airlines during the MDW privatisation lease<br />

negotiations and transition process. She also worked with the<br />

airports, consultants and other airlines to open two new<br />

terminals at DTW and IND.<br />

Dr Andreas Wolf, Vice President<br />

Technology and IP Management, Cross<br />

Match Technologies, Germany<br />

Dr Andreas Wolf studied Mathematics at Humboldt<br />

University, Berlin, Germany, and holds a PhD in Computer<br />

Science from Munich University of Technology. In industry,<br />

he worked with NorCom Information Technology AG, and<br />

with Voice.Trust AG. He initialised the first European<br />

Common Criteria certification of a biometric product together<br />

with the TÜViT GmbH, Essen, as the evaluation body. Since<br />

2004, Dr Wolf has worked with Cross Match Technologies<br />

GmbH, Jena, currently in the position of VP Technology and<br />

IP Management. Dr Wolf has published several book and<br />

journal contributions as well as conference papers, and holds<br />

teaching positions with the Friedrich Schiller University, Jena<br />

and the University of Cooperative Education in Gera. He is a<br />

member of the DIN standardisation groups NIA-17.3 and<br />

NIA-37, and is one of the experts delegated to the ISO<br />

committees SC17 and SC37, and to the CEN Biometrics Focus<br />

Group.<br />

Mr Andrew Price, Assistant Director,<br />

Baggage and the BIP, IATA, Switzerland<br />

Andrew Price is currently Assistant Director, Baggage<br />

Improvement Programme at IATA. The Baggage Improvement<br />

Programme, launched in 2007, aims to provide solutions that<br />

will cut baggage mishandling by half by 2012 and save the<br />

industry US$1.9 billion every year. Prior to launching BIP,<br />

Andrew was the IATA RFID Project Manager. During this<br />

time, IATA won the RFID Breakthrough Award in 2006 for its<br />

work on the business case for baggage handling in the<br />

aviation industry. Prior to joining IATA, Andrew spent nearly<br />

10 years at British Airways, progressing through a series of<br />

positions in customer relations, baggage and aircraft<br />

engineering.


Mr Andrew Thomson, Associate/<br />

Architect, Kasian Architecture Interior<br />

Design and Planning, Canada<br />

Andrew has 15 years of architectural experience and is an<br />

Associate in Kasian’s Vancouver office. A UK-registered<br />

architect, he has been project manager of commercial/<br />

institutional and mixed-use buildings in the UK. Since<br />

joining Kasian in 2004 he has been involved in multiple<br />

projects at YVR. Beginning in 2005 and completing by the<br />

end of 2009, the multi-phase Link Project totalling US$100m<br />

overall in construction costs links the existing international<br />

and domestic terminals and connects with new ground<br />

transportation rapid transit. Andrew was project manager on<br />

the final phase of the project from 2006-2009.<br />

Ms Anne Marie Pellerin, TSA Attaché &<br />

Representative Paris, France<br />

Anne Marie Pellerin currently serves as the Transportation<br />

Security Administration’s Representative (TSAR) to Denmark,<br />

France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the<br />

European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC). Before her<br />

appointment as a TSAR, Ms Pellerin served as Executive<br />

Director of TSA’s comprehensive overhaul of its passenger<br />

security strategy. In less than 18 months, she led the creation<br />

and launch of multiple new partnership initiatives including<br />

mobile boarding pass, checkpoint reservations, laptopfriendly<br />

bags and expertise-based queuing. Working with a<br />

leading global design firm, she spearheaded the development<br />

of a fully redesigned checkpoint environment, currently<br />

showcased at BWI Airport.<br />

Mr Andy Blackwell, Head of Aviation<br />

Security, Virgin Atlantic Airways, UK<br />

Andy is Head of Aviation Security with Virgin Atlantic<br />

Airways, and has overall responsibility for the management<br />

of the airline’s global aviation security programme and<br />

emergency procedures. His duties include threat assessment,<br />

emergency response and providing senior executives with<br />

high-quality intelligence and strategic direction to ensure<br />

business operations remain secure, resilient and compliant.<br />

Prior to joining Virgin in December 2002 he was UK Security<br />

Manager and Lead Threat Assessor with DHL International, a<br />

position he held for seven years. Andy also has over 17 years’<br />

law enforcement experience, and served with UK Customs,<br />

British Transport Police, the UK’s National Drugs Intelligence<br />

Unit, the National Drugs Intelligence Service of the Czech<br />

Republic, and the Strategic Research Unit of the UK’s<br />

National Criminal Intelligence Service. He is a full member of<br />

the Emergency Planning Society.<br />

Mr Art Kosatka, CEO, TranSecure Inc, USA<br />

Art formed TranSecure in 2002 as an aviation security<br />

consultancy upon his retirement from the US Transportation<br />

Security Administration’s Civil Aviation Security Policy &<br />

Planning Office. He was previously with the US Federal<br />

Aviation Administration. He has managed more than 50<br />

AVSEC projects, including security planning and design, and<br />

development of airport security programmes, and has<br />

developed and presented training at all levels, including the<br />

US State Department’s Quality Control of Aviation Security<br />

for the US Anti-Terrorism Assistance Programme. He is a<br />

frequent <strong>speaker</strong> and author of numerous AVSEC articles and<br />

publications, including TSA’s Recommended Security<br />

Guidelines for Airport Planning, Design and Construction.<br />

Mrs Ayesgul Kamut Brown, Project<br />

Manager - Aviation, Parsons<br />

International, United Arab Emirates<br />

Aysegul is currently a Project Manager with Parsons<br />

International Ltd, working in the area of programme<br />

management and delivery of international airports. With a<br />

wealth of experience (15 years) in this environment, she<br />

brings forth a unique set of knowledge and skills in the<br />

complex arena of airport planning, design, construction,<br />

delivery and operations. Aysegul also has a successful project<br />

design and construction record with Turkish (Istanbul,<br />

Akara, Izmir), Georgian (Tbilisi), eastern European<br />

(Bratislava), Egyptian (Cairo) and Abu Dhabi airports (Abu<br />

Dhabi Al Ain Al Bateen) in the UAE. Her principal field of<br />

expertise is in leading teams and managing projects<br />

strategically on behalf of the clients / governments.<br />

Mr Benjamin DeCosta, Aviation General<br />

Manager, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta<br />

International Airport, USA<br />

Benjamin R. DeCosta assumed leadership of Hartsfield-Jackson<br />

Atlanta International Airport in June 1998. Among his top<br />

priorities as Department of Aviation General Manager are<br />

customer service and security, and he leads Hartsfield-Jackson’s<br />

US$6 billion-plus capital improvement programme. DeCosta<br />

serves on the boards of directors for Airports Council<br />

International and the American Association of Airport<br />

Executives (AAAE), and holds Accredited Airport Executive<br />

designation from the AAAE. He was voted Best Director of the<br />

Year by Airport Revenue News magazine in 2007 and was named<br />

a Man of the Year by Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine in 2009.<br />

Mr Bernard Gustin, CEO, Brussels Airlines,<br />

Belgium<br />

Bernard Gustin is co-Chief Executive Officer of the leading<br />

airline flying from the European capital: Brussels Airlines. He<br />

has direct responsibility over commercial, marketing,<br />

network, communication, relationships with key<br />

stakeholders, strategy and IT. In 2001, after the Sabena<br />

bankruptcy, Bernard, as Partner of Arthur D. Little,<br />

developed the business plan for the new Belgian airline for a<br />

consortium of Belgian investors. On the basis of this business<br />

plan, SN Brussels Airlines was launched in 2002. In 2005,<br />

after supporting the privatisation process of Charleroi Airport<br />

and Brussels Airport, Bernard become one of the actors in the<br />

merger of the two Belgian airlines: SN Brussels Airlines and<br />

Virgin Express. In 2007, Brussels Airlines took off. In 2008<br />

Bernard was appointed co-Chief Executive Officer of Brussels<br />

Airlines together with Michel Meyfroidt. During their first<br />

year they concluded the partnership between Brussels<br />

Airlines and Lufthansa Group, and the entrance of the<br />

Belgian airline in Star Alliance.<br />

Mr Bernd Rattey, Director IT Station<br />

Systems, Lufthansa German Airlines,<br />

Germany<br />

Bernd Rattey studied computer sciences at the University of<br />

Bremen. After working for five years for a global German<br />

chemical company as SAP consultant, he entered Lufthansa<br />

in 2001 as Director HR IT systems. In 2006 he took over the<br />

global responsibility for station systems, being responsible for<br />

all IT projects regarding passenger processes, baggage and<br />

passenger security issues.


Mrs Betty Samola, Programme Manager,<br />

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Netherlands<br />

Betty Samola (MSc in Public Administration) currently works<br />

as Programme Manager at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol,<br />

where she is responsible for the Redesign <strong>Passenger</strong> Process<br />

programme. Additionally she is involved in innovative<br />

security projects as senior security advisor.<br />

Ms Beverly Lewis, MCO/MIA Station<br />

Manager, Alaska Airlines, USA<br />

Beverly Lewis has been with Alaska Airlines for 11 years –<br />

nine in management, seven as Station Manager. She is<br />

currently managing the Orlando and Miami Alaska Airlines<br />

stations. Beverly has been working in customer service<br />

positions for over 30 years. She is also the OIA International<br />

Airport Charity Committee Chairperson and has been<br />

organiser of the OIA Management Council Annual Charity<br />

Golf Tournament for the past four years.<br />

Mr Brad Miller, Major Projects Director,<br />

Manchester Airports Group, UK<br />

Brad is responsible for all capital project delivery within the<br />

Group, as well as revenue and capital procurement. Having<br />

worked for contractor, consultant and now the client, he<br />

appreciates many of the supply-chain perspectives from firsthand<br />

experience. A Chartered Surveyor by background, Brad<br />

has an in-depth knowledge of facets of project and<br />

programme delivery as well as a good understanding of the<br />

aviation and customer services environments. Brad is<br />

currently working towards his MBA, and places a high<br />

emphasis on continuous improvement both for himself and<br />

his team.<br />

Mr Bradley Hemphill, Managing Director,<br />

Electrical Engineering Solutions (EES),<br />

South Africa<br />

Bradley Hemphill began his working career at WSP, an<br />

international firm of consulting engineers, before he moved<br />

into the construction and implementation world at Brand<br />

Engineering. He founded EES, a professional services<br />

company delivering powerful solutions in all verticals, in<br />

2001. Bradley has extensive speaking experience and to date<br />

has delivered over 15 presentations worldwide.<br />

Mr Brent Kelley, Principal, Corgan<br />

Associates Inc, USA<br />

Brent Kelley is an Aviation Principal with the Dallas, Texasbased<br />

architectural firm of Corgan Associates Inc. He<br />

received his degree in architecture from the University of<br />

Texas (Arlington) and has over 20 years’ experience in the<br />

planning and design of architectural projects, with an<br />

emphasis specific to aviation facilities. Brent has been<br />

involved in planning and design of airport terminal projects<br />

across the US, including projects at Dallas/Ft. Worth,<br />

Houston and Phoenix. Most recently he served as a design<br />

manager for the new 2 million square foot International<br />

<strong>Terminal</strong> D at DFW International Airport, which was part of<br />

a US$2 billion capital programme. For the last seven years,<br />

Brent has served as the Design Director for the new Central<br />

<strong>Terminal</strong> B as part of the Big Build Programme at Sacramento<br />

Mr Brian Engle, Operations Manager,<br />

Delta Air Lines Inc, USA<br />

Brian Engle has over 18 years’ experience in managing air<br />

cargo and passenger operations. In 1997 he joined Northwest<br />

Airlines Inc, and served as the Director of Airport Operations<br />

based in Orlando, FL (MCO) until 2009, when Northwest<br />

merged with Delta Air Lines Inc. As a result of the merger,<br />

Brian is now with Delta Air Lines serving as Operations<br />

Manager, and continues to be based in Orlando. Brian served<br />

as Chairman of the Orlando Airport Management Council in<br />

2002, leading the airline management group during the<br />

transition of airport security from private vendor to the TSA<br />

in the aftermath of 9/11. Most recently, Brian served as<br />

Chairman of the Orlando Airport Security Council in 2006.<br />

He has been a Co-Chairman for the <strong>Passenger</strong> <strong>Terminal</strong> <strong>Expo</strong><br />

security conference for the last three years.<br />

Mr Brian Keene, Director Airport<br />

Services, Continental Airlines, USA<br />

Brian was promoted to his current position as Director of<br />

Airport Services in Orlando, Florida in 1996. He holds a<br />

Bachelor of Science degree in Air Commerce and Airport<br />

Management from the Florida Institute of Technology, and<br />

has served in a variety of leadership positions within the<br />

industry. Along with his current role directing the airport<br />

operations at Orlando International Airport, he currently<br />

serves as Chairman of the Airline Security Council. He has<br />

previously served as the Chairman of the Airport<br />

Management Council in addition to participation in various<br />

airport and company planning committees. Brian’s<br />

combination of leadership and experience has given him a<br />

unique and creative perspective on the industry and the<br />

trends of the future.<br />

Mr Bruce Anderson, Vice President,<br />

Landrum & Brown, USA<br />

As an AIA-licensed and LEED-AP, Bruce Anderson’s 23 years<br />

of experience have ranged from selecting new airport sites to<br />

designing new terminals and expanding and renovating<br />

existing terminals, as well as simulating passenger<br />

performance at over 35 airport terminal projects including<br />

facilities at Chicago O’Hare, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Detroit<br />

Metropolitan, Munich, Boston Logan and Shanghai Pudong.<br />

He is currently leading the TRB/ACRP <strong>Terminal</strong> Guidebook<br />

project, has served as the Panel Chair on ACRP 07-01 New<br />

Concepts for Airport <strong>Terminal</strong> Landside Facilities, and will<br />

serve as the 2010 Airport Consultants Council’s Vice Chair<br />

on <strong>Terminal</strong> Planning.<br />

Mr Bruce Edwards, Deputy Project<br />

Manager/Fire Chief, Kabul International<br />

Airport, Afghanistan<br />

Bruce Edwards is serving the International Civil Aviation<br />

Organization (ICAO) Team in Kabul, Afghanistan as Fire and<br />

Rescue Expert and Deputy Project Manager. The ICAO team<br />

is working with Afghans to mentor and build capacity within<br />

the Ministry of Transportation and Civil Aviation at Kabul<br />

International Airport. Bruce has been a career firefighter<br />

since 1973 and his first posting as an Airport Fire Chief was<br />

in 1994. He has been a military firefighter in the United<br />

States Air Force and has worked in civil aviation in such<br />

places as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq and<br />

Afghanistan.


Mr Bryan Thompson, Director, Mumbai<br />

International Airport, India<br />

Bryan Thompson has been involved in the aviation industry<br />

for the past 20 years. His broad experience – from piloting<br />

and aircraft air traffic control to operating an airport – makes<br />

him an ideal candidate to comment on airports and the<br />

quality of service they as a system deliver to airlines and<br />

passengers alike.<br />

Mr Carlos Madeira, Vice President, ANA -<br />

Aeroportos de Portugal, Portugal<br />

Carlos Madeira is Vice President of ANA - Aeroportos de<br />

Portugal, President of Portway Handling and Chief Executive<br />

Officer of NAER, a vehicle company set up to design and<br />

implement the New Lisbon Airport project. He holds a Civil<br />

Engineering degree from the Instituto Superior Técnico<br />

Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (1983), a Masters (MBA)<br />

degree from the Faculdade de Economia Universidade Nova<br />

de Lisboa (1991) and a SEP degree from the Stanford<br />

Graduate Business School, Stanford University, Palo Alto,<br />

California (1996). Prior to joining the airport sector Carlos<br />

worked for several years as a management consultant (The<br />

MAC Group and Gemini Consulting), moving afterwards into<br />

line management serving on the Board of Directors of large<br />

Portuguese companies: Nutrinveste (food business), ADP and<br />

EPAL (water sector) and EDP (electricity and gas distribution<br />

and power generation).<br />

Ms Catherine Mayer, VP Airport Services,<br />

SITA, USA<br />

Catherine Mayer was appointed VP Airport Services, SITA, in<br />

2003 and is responsible for developing and leading the<br />

Airport Services solution line. She focuses on strategy,<br />

product marketing, industry relations and improving the<br />

business to ensure SITA continues to meet the needs of the<br />

ever-changing air transport industry. Catherine is the<br />

primary liaison for SITA with airport industry organisations,<br />

ensuring SITA’s availability and support for committees,<br />

conferences and industry missions. She is an active<br />

participant in ACI, including serving as Chairman of the ACI<br />

World Business Partners Board as well as being the first nonairport<br />

member to serve on the ACI World Governing Board.<br />

Catherine is responsible for developing customer and<br />

industry partnerships and continues to work closely with the<br />

industry to influence international and national legislation,<br />

rules, policies, standards and practices.<br />

Mr Chris Chalk, Divisional Director, Mott<br />

MacDonald, UK<br />

Chris Chalk is Practice Leader for aviation in Mott<br />

MacDonald, leading multi-disciplinary teams mainly on<br />

project finance deals where traffic demand and affordability<br />

are key issues. As part of this work he has lead and justified<br />

complex traffic forecasting to discerning investors and<br />

lenders, including assessment of shock scenarios. He has<br />

extensive experience in total airport planning from forecasts<br />

to financial modelling. Key projects include Delhi, Pulkovo,<br />

Istanbul, Antalya, Larnaca, Enfidha, Hong Kong and Quito, as<br />

well as advising on the regulation of airports in South Africa.<br />

Mr Chris O’Keeffe, Counsellor, Australian<br />

Customs and Border Protection, Belgium<br />

Chris O’Keeffe has over 16 years’ experience in public<br />

administration, and was appointed to the position of<br />

Counsellor, Australian Customs and Border Protection,<br />

Brussels in September 2009, with responsibilities spanning<br />

Europe, Africa, Ireland and the United Kingdom. Prior to his<br />

current role Chris was the Director, Supply Chain Security,<br />

responsible for the provision of high-level strategic direction<br />

regarding developments and implementation of the World<br />

Customs Organisation SAFE Framework of Standards in<br />

Australia. Working closely with industry, Chris’s<br />

responsibilities included the consideration of an Australian<br />

Authorised Economic Operator programme for supply chain<br />

security, broader Customs to Customs arrangements to<br />

support implementation of the WCO SAFE Framework, and<br />

global economic trade recovery concepts and models.<br />

Ms Christina Sares, Environmental<br />

Advisor, LFV Stockholm-Arlanda Airport,<br />

Sweden<br />

Christina Sares has worked as an environmental advisor at<br />

Stockholm-Arlanda Airport since 2005. She has an MSci in<br />

chemical engineering, and her main focus area at Stockholm-<br />

Arlanda is environmental communication.<br />

Mr Christophe Arnaud, Business Unit<br />

Manager, IER, France<br />

Christophe Arnaud graduated from CERAM Business School<br />

and holds a Masters from Ecole Centrale Paris. He spent<br />

several years in management consulting, as Sales Manager in<br />

the automotive industry and as Business Analyst in a global<br />

high-tech company, before moving to IER where he is<br />

Mr David Stewart, Assistant Director,<br />

David Stewart has almost 30 years’ experience in airport<br />

master planning, terminal area planning and design on major<br />

international airport projects worldwide. As the IATA<br />

Assistant Director Airport Development based at Heathrow,<br />

David currently works closely with the Heathrow airline<br />

community. His main activities include overseeing BAA’s<br />

activities that impact the ability of the airline community to<br />

do business at Heathrow Airport. Current priorities include<br />

review of the Heathrow five-year Capital Investment Plan and<br />

the associated large infrastructure projects such as the<br />

David Taylor, Senior Director Global Product Management for<br />

ARINC’s Airport Systems, is responsible for strategising,<br />

developing and implementing products worldwide. He began<br />

his aviation career in 1968 as an avionics engineer in London<br />

with BOAC. He became an airline pilot with British Airways<br />

based at London Heathrow, and Operations Systems<br />

Superintendent for BA’s worldwide operations control<br />

systems. In 1984 he moved to the US as Director of MIS, and<br />

then Vice President, Technical Support for VM Software, a<br />

mainframe system software company. Since joining ARINC in<br />

Denis Leluc has a Civil Engineering degree and a Masters<br />

management since 2004. As Head of International Airport<br />

Operation he supervises the operation of more than 25<br />

airports around the world and acts as director of most of the<br />

Dr Devasia Kalappurackal Jacob, Senior<br />

Airport, India<br />

Kalappurackal Jacob Devasia was born and brought up in<br />

Kerala, India. After receiving his post-graduate degree in<br />

Social Work he joined Pratichi India Trust – an NGO of<br />

Nobel Laureate Prof Amartya Sen – and started his career in<br />

disaster management. He also registered for a doctorate in<br />

Disaster Management and became the first to get a PhD in the<br />

same field in India. He joined the United Nations<br />

Development Programme and worked for five years in Delhi<br />

in disaster management, before joining Bangalore<br />

International Airport in 2007 as Manager to set up an airport<br />

emergency management system in the new greenfield airport.<br />

He initiated BCM first in the Indian civil aviation industry<br />

and was promoted to Senior Manager.<br />

Mr Dimitris Bountolos Montabes,<br />

Dimitris Bountolos is a Civil Engineer, EMBA by the EOI and<br />

PDD by the IESE Business School. He started his career as a<br />

junior consultant in the Public Transport sector, which was<br />

involved in the definition and implementation of several<br />

international projects in Mexico, Poland and Afghanistan,<br />

supported by governments and international institutions. As<br />

a senior consultant, Dimitris worked in ALG (subsidiary of<br />

Indra) and gained extensive experience in aviation, which<br />

was later applied to the move to and setup of Iberia ground<br />

operations at the new T4 of Madrid Airport. He is responsible<br />

for engineering and implementing major developments in<br />

that operation, including the deployment of latest-generation<br />

technology and the launching of a new Hub Control Center.<br />

After studying Economics in Germany, Dirk Schusdziara<br />

started his career in 1996 with Fraport AG, where he was<br />

responsible for defining user requirements for the high-speed<br />

train station project. In 1999 he moved to the Philippines,<br />

where he was Head of <strong>Terminal</strong> Operations responsible for<br />

planning, coordinating and implementing the operation of the<br />

new passenger terminal at Manila International Airport. In<br />

2003 he returned to Fraport AG in Frankfurt, where he was<br />

responsible for the strategic development of the airport facility<br />

management. In 2005 Dirk was appointed Chief Operation<br />

Officer of Cairo International Airport, Egypt. In addition to<br />

the day-to-day operation, he was responsible for taking the<br />

new <strong>Terminal</strong> 3 with a capacity of 11 million passengers into<br />

operation. Since 2009 Dirk has been Chief Executive Officer<br />

Organization (ICAO). He is currently Director of a new<br />

consultancy company based in Geneva, Switzerland, at the<br />

origin of the first comprehensive and official testing protocol<br />

Ms Dorothee Bernhard, Project Manager,<br />

During her 15 years in the aviation business Dorothee<br />

Bernhard has gained extensive experience with airport<br />

operations and planning. She carried out several simulation<br />

studies for the expansion planning of Frankfurt airport<br />

especially with regard to passenger transfer processes, and<br />

has represented Fraport in several international projects<br />

within Europe, Asia and Africa. During her assignment<br />

(1999-2001) for the opening of Athens Eleftherios Venizelos<br />

International Airport she was responsible for staff training<br />

and recruitment. As project manager she was responsible for<br />

the development of planning flight schedules, stand and gate<br />

allocation and simulation studies for Delhi International<br />

After working for British Airways in passenger service roles,<br />

Commercial Manager <strong>Terminal</strong> 4 Heathrow, Retail Strategy<br />

specialising in commercial. In 2000 Macquarie acquired the<br />

company to establish its airport business, and Doug has since<br />

Eamonn has over 25 years’ experience in architecting,<br />

designing and managing major projects throughout the world<br />

including Sky TV, mobile phone operator 3 and DHL.<br />

Eamonn is currently the Enterprise Architect for BAA with<br />

responsibility for all operational and passenger facing<br />

systems. In addition Eamonn is a member of the SESAR<br />

Architecture Task Force and the Architecture Lead within the<br />

European Hub airport consortia (SEAC) for SESAR. Eamonn<br />

Mrs Elfa Ķere-BĶliĶa, Administrator,<br />

Elfa Bāliāa is an official in the Large-Scale IT Systems and<br />

Biometrics Unit at the Directorate-General Justice, Freedom<br />

and Security of the European Commission – the executive<br />

body of the European Union. In addition to working on the<br />

Visa Information System project with particular emphasis on<br />

communication, she is also working on various aspects<br />

concerning the setting up of an entry/exit system and parallel<br />

Registered Traveller Scheme at the external borders of the<br />

EU, in close cooperation with the Border Management and<br />

Return policy unit. Elfa has a political science background<br />

and holds an MSc from the London School of Economics in<br />

European Politics and Policy. Before joining the VIS team in<br />

Mr Emanuel Fleuti, Head of Environment,<br />

Emanuel Fleuti has been working with Unique (former<br />

Zurich Airport Authority) since 1990 as Head of<br />

Environmental Services. He is responsible for all<br />

environmental topics at the airport excluding aircraft noise,<br />

but deals particularly with environmental management and<br />

air quality. Emanuel is participating in a number of different<br />

international programmes such as Aeronet ICAO’s Committee<br />

on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP), and represents<br />

World Environment Standing Committee (currently as<br />

Mr Eng San Teoh, Project Manager,<br />

Ltd, Singapore<br />

After graduating with a Civil Engineering degree in 1984,<br />

Teoh Eng San worked as a civil engineer in various capacities<br />

– from Site Engineer with a construction company to Design<br />

Engineer with a consultancy firm. He then joined the Civil<br />

Aviation Authority of Singapore in 1990. Due to the<br />

corporatisation of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore<br />

on 1 July 2009, he is now with the airport operator (Changi<br />

Airport Group). Currently he is managing the Seletar<br />

Aerospace Park Project, valued at about S$300 million. The<br />

project will be developed over five years. Prior to this he was<br />

involved with the planning of Changi Airport airside<br />

development works and mass rapid train extension to the<br />

airport. His previous mega project was the development of<br />

<strong>Terminal</strong> 3, where he was the Project Manager overseeing the<br />

construction from inception until the opening of the terminal<br />

in early 2008.<br />

Mr Eric Léopold, BCBP Project Manager,<br />

IATA, Switzerland<br />

Eric Léopold joined IATA in 2005. Based in the Geneva<br />

office, Eric is responsible for managing the BCBP project<br />

globally. The project is one of the Simplifying the Business<br />

initiatives mandated by IATA’s Board of Governors and<br />

represents US$1.5 billion in annual savings for the airline<br />

industry. BCBP defines an industry 2D barcode standard for<br />

boarding passes that enables web and mobile check-in. Born<br />

in France, Eric Léopold holds a Master of Science degree in<br />

Electrical Engineering from Supelec and Georgia Tech and an<br />

Manager Security from 2004-2008. He studied Business<br />

Administration at the Technical Faculty of Amsterdam, and<br />

has a BSc in Engineering from the Technical Faculty of West<br />

Brabant: Environmental Management. As a member of the<br />

Insead International Executive Programme, he developed<br />

himself from a manager who is managing the business to a<br />

leader who is leading the business on a more strategic level<br />

Dr Fernando Cardoso Coelho, Head of<br />

Fernando Cardoso Coelho is Head of the Aviation Security<br />

Quality Control Department at the Portuguese Civil<br />

Authority. He has a degree in Human Resources<br />

Management, and has been an ICAO, ECAC and EU certified<br />

Aviation Security Auditor since 2001, having participated in<br />

multiple audits both as team leader and team member. He is a<br />

member of the ECAC Training Task Force and several<br />

working groups at the EU. Fernando also lectures in Aviation<br />

Security as part of an Executive MBA course in Air Transport<br />

Management and a degree in Flight Operations Management.<br />

Dr Florent Frederix, Head of Sector,<br />

Florent Frederix has been working in the Information,<br />

Society and Media Directorate-General of the European<br />

Commission since 2001, and has been Head of Sector since<br />

January 2006. The RFID sector manages parts of the 7th<br />

framework research programme, the policy aspects and<br />

international cooperation on RFID and the emerging Internet<br />

of Things. Recent work includes a recommendation on the<br />

implementation of privacy and information security<br />

principles in RFID-enabled applications and a<br />

communication on the Internet of Things. Before joining the<br />

EU Commission Florent spent 20 years in the information<br />

and telecom industry. He has an educational background in<br />

Frank is a construction and project management professional<br />

with 43 years’ experience in managing major capital projects<br />

in the industrial, institutional and commercial sectors in<br />

Canada and overseas. As Manager Airport <strong>Terminal</strong> Projects<br />

at YVR, his responsibility is to oversee and manage the<br />

planning, design and implementation of major capital<br />

projects with focus on the terminal facility as part of its<br />

ongoing renovation and upgrade programme. This<br />

programme is charged with the requirement to expand,<br />

renovate and upgrade the 1968 Domestic <strong>Terminal</strong> in an<br />

economical and efficient manner to meet today’s and future<br />

needs of the airline industry. On major projects Frank will<br />

Hans-Dieter Janecke has been working for the Lufthansa Group<br />

experience includes advising the Government of Uruguay on the<br />

privatisation of Carrasco International Airport, market potential<br />

career with ITC Hotels as a Management Trainee, and has<br />

worked in its premier hotels in Delhi, Chennai and<br />

Bangalore. He joined Jet Airways, India’s leading domestic<br />

carrier, in 2003 and was responsible for the ground<br />

operations of the Bangalore station. In his last assignment, as<br />

Head of Daily Operations on the Greenfield Bangalore<br />

Airport, Hari was part of the core team that successfully<br />

Hugo has been an experienced ICT professional for more than 20<br />

years. He is currently ICT Service Manager at the Brussels Airport<br />

Company, where he is responsible for the setup of an information<br />

structure and implementation of a company-wide documentmanagement<br />

system. Former experience includes product and<br />

project management in airline and airport ICT. He worked for<br />

Sabena Airlines for five years, where he participated in setting up<br />

the baggage handling license plate concept with IATA. He joined<br />

After graduating from St Louis University, USA, with a Bachelor<br />

Khaled Almazroui was hired at Fujairah International Airport as<br />

management trainee. He pursued his academic career to obtain a<br />

Masters degree in Business Administration in Aviation from<br />

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, USA, followed by a<br />

Masters degree in Aeronautical Science in 1993 from the same<br />

university. Dr Almazroui joined Fujairah International Airport<br />

again as Finance and Administration Manager, and was then<br />

accorded the position of Deputy General Manager in May 1995,<br />

followed by the position of Acting General Manager in 1999. He<br />

became the General Manager of the airport in 2001. In June<br />

2006, he obtained his doctoral degree in business<br />

administration, specialising in marketing management from<br />

University of Lincoln, UK.<br />

Kevin joined Sussex Police in September 1987. In 2007 he<br />

Leon finished his Business Economics degree at the<br />

University of Tilburg in the Netherlands with a thesis on the<br />

use of marketing strategies in the aviation industry. He joined<br />

the market research department of Fokker Aircraft in 1986 to<br />

assist in Fokker 50 and Fokker 100 marketing analysis and<br />

presentations. In 1988 he joined the market research<br />

department of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. After three years<br />

he became the airline marketing manager for Europe and<br />

Africa, and started the development of professional airport<br />

marketing to airlines. He gradually moved up the ranks to<br />

become the Director for Aviation Marketing in 2001. In 2006<br />

he was approached by Brussels Airport to set up and organise<br />

a new airline marketing department, and to contribute to the<br />

new aviation development strategy for the airport.

Having joined Virgin Atlantic in 2001, initially in marketing,<br />

travel, airline and airport industry in Belgium. Before taking<br />

up his position at Brussels Airport he worked for 25 years for<br />

South African Airways in Belgium and Luxembourg in<br />

various functions including reservations, ticketing and<br />

airport operations as well as cargo and passenger marketing<br />

and sales. During his time with SAA he chaired for various<br />

periods as vice-chairman and chairman of the local AOC and<br />

was actively involved with consulting tasks on various<br />

important airport projects. Since February 2008 one of his<br />

challenges has been to set up and manage the CUPPS pilot<br />

project at Brussels Airport.<br />

In the last two years Paolo has proposed a new vision of the<br />

Pascal Thomas has 17 years of experience in the<br />

transportation industry. After spending 12 years with IER<br />

America. In 2005 he joined Desko to lead international sales<br />

After majoring in Civil Engineering at Stuttgart University,<br />

Patrick Wenzel joined Airplan GmbH airport consulting<br />

engineers in Stuttgart. While gaining master planning,<br />

engineering and construction experience on a number of<br />

passenger guidance systems at airports. After five years Patrick<br />

Mr Thierry Chanard, CEO (Urban<br />

For 11 years Thierry Chanard has led GEA, a Swiss private<br />

company involved in urban design and planning. He has<br />

been specialised in the field of innovative transportation<br />

systems by following all kinds of experimentation for the last<br />

20 years, and has developed a methodology of dimensioning<br />

and integration of new transportation systems (VOLTair<br />

methodology), and has participated in many conferences and<br />

congresses throughout Europe. Thierry is now coordinating<br />

the development of a new system of urban tranport – Cristal<br />

– which will be tested for the first time in real conditions of<br />

operation and use in Strasbourg in 2013.<br />

Professor Thomas Immelmann, Director<br />

Dr Thomas Immelmann was Director of Strategic Planning<br />

and Product Management of the German Airline LTU. In<br />

1997 he joined Hamburg Airport as Director of Corporate<br />

Communications, Marketing and Sales, and was appointed<br />

Senior Vice President and Director Commercial in 2003. Dr<br />

Immelmann is senior lecturer for Microeconomics and<br />

Aviation at the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen.<br />

Mr Thomas Ludwig, Head of Automated<br />

Germany<br />

Thomas Ludwig has been directly involved in the planning,<br />

implementation, building and testing of automated people<br />

mover systems (APM) since 1993. Over the past nine years<br />

with Logplan Thomas has provided his expertise for<br />

innovative projects including the cable-propelled APM system<br />

at Zurich Airport. He has been responsible for Logplan work<br />

for APM systems in Incheon, South Korea; San Francisco,<br />

USA; Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Beijing, China; and Frankfurt<br />

International Airport, Germany. Prior to joining Logplan<br />

Thomas was employed by Bombardier and worked in a<br />

management capacity for its APM projects in Rome,<br />

Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Frankfurt.

Germany<br />

Thomas Spiller holds a diploma in Economics. He started his<br />

career with a Swiss consulting company. Thomas has 29<br />

years of experience in the airline business with British<br />

Airways, Air France and Lufthansa in all fields of ground and<br />

flight operation. In 2002 he was delegated to the <strong>Terminal</strong> 2<br />

management company, a joint venture between Lufthansa<br />

and Munich Airport, where he is General Manager,<br />

Operations and Contracts.<br />

Architects, USA<br />

Thomas P. Theobald, AIA, LEED AP, is Principal at Fentress<br />

Architects, an international leader in airport and terminal<br />

design with nearly 5 million square metres and over US$13<br />

billion of airport space. As Project Manager, Project Architect<br />

and Construction Administrator, Thomas has worked<br />

extensively on complex and innovative airport projects<br />

throughout the world, including Incheon International<br />

University of Tokyo, Japan<br />

Toki Udagaw has a Master of Arts degree in Criminal Justice<br />

from Washington State University. From 2000-2006 she<br />

worked for the Juridical Foundation Airport Security<br />

Business Centre Japan, as an International Project Manager in<br />

the Planning and Research Division. As a security specialist<br />

she participated in W/G for ICAO Audit, the Study Group on<br />

Major Airports Security System Enforcement Plan in the<br />

Republic of Indonesia, APEC Transportation W/G,<br />

Symposium ICAO National Auditors Training Course,<br />

CTX5000 Instructor Training Course, TSA Ground Security<br />

Coordinator Course, etc. In 2007 she worked for the Juridical<br />

Foundation Japan International Cooperation Centre. Since<br />

2007 she has been a PhD candidate in the Department of<br />

International Studies, Graduate School of Frontier Science,<br />

University of Tokyo, Japan, where her research theme is<br />

Airport Security Management.<br />

Mr Tom Farmakis, Director, DGS, USA<br />

Tom Farmakis has over 30 years’ aviation industry<br />

experience with in-depth knowledge of airline operations<br />

including above/below wing operations, control analyst,<br />

flight operations, quality assurance and compliance, pilot<br />

ground training, contract training and Sales Manager in hub<br />

operations, Project Manager – technology implementations.<br />

He is co-founder of a technology-based company using GPSbased<br />

solutions and co-inventor of four aviation-related GPS-<br />

GIS-based US patents.<br />

Dr Tom Voge, Senior Consultant,<br />

Transport & Mobility Leuven, Belgium<br />

Tom Voge is a Senior Consultant in Transport and Mobility,<br />

Leuven, Belgium. He graduated as a Civil Engineer from the<br />

University of Applied Science in Hamburg, Germany, then<br />

worked as a project engineer for a transport consultancy in<br />

Hamburg before studying for an MSc in Transportation<br />

Planning and Engineering at the University of Southampton,<br />

Group at the University of Southampton as a research fellow,<br />

and completed a PhD in Transportation Engineering. He also<br />

Mr Tony Gollin, COO, Auckland<br />

International Airport Limited, New<br />

Zealand<br />

Tony Gollin was appointed General Manager of the newly<br />

formed Aeronautical Division in May 2006. He rejoined the<br />

company in 2004 as General Manager - Corporate Planning<br />

and Strategy after previously working for the company from<br />

1988 to 1997 in Commercial and General Manager roles. He<br />

spent the intervening years in London in international airport<br />

development and investment. Tony is responsible for the<br />

Aeronautical Division (formerly called Operations). His role<br />

encompasses aeronautical pricing, air service route<br />

development and day-to-day operations of the airport.<br />

Mr Ty Osbaugh, Senior <strong>Terminal</strong><br />

Architect, Gensler, USA<br />

Ty Osbaugh is the Senior <strong>Terminal</strong> Architect for Gensler’s<br />

aviation practice in Europe. Most recently he served as the<br />

<strong>Terminal</strong> Architect for the JetBlue <strong>Terminal</strong> 5 at JFK<br />

International Airport in New York. He is a member of the<br />

American Institute of Architects, LEED accredited and a<br />

Senior Associate at Genlser.<br />

Mr Ulf Lengemann, Senior Manager Gate<br />

Processes, Lufthansa German Airlines,<br />

Germany<br />

Born 1975, Ulf Lengemann studied industrial engineering in<br />

Darmstadt and Berlin. In 2002 he started his career at<br />

Lufthansa German Airlines in Hamburg, and since 2008 he<br />

has been responsible for the global gate processes in<br />

Frankfurt. With his team he defines gate processes, the<br />

further development of online check-in and innovations in<br />

the field of passenger processes, i.e. the mobile boarding<br />

pass. Ulf has a long experience in project management and<br />

logistics, which supports him in performing his current job.<br />

Having successfully implemented the mobile boarding pass<br />

in 2008, he helped Lufthansa gain a leading position in the<br />

field of mobile services.<br />

Mrs Uta Kohse, Senior Consultant,<br />

Airport Research Center GmbH,<br />

Germany<br />

Dipl.-Ing. Uta Kohse holds a degree in Architecture and<br />

Software Engineering. She has more than 12 years of<br />

experience working as Airport Consultant and Project<br />

Manager on airport projects. Additionally she has lectured in<br />

Strategic Airport Planning at the TU Delft. Since 2001 she<br />

has worked with ARC, with responsibility for airport<br />

planning and simulation projects.<br />

Mr Vaughan Hoy, Principal/Architect,<br />

Kasian Architecture Interior Design and<br />

Planning, Canada<br />

Vaughan has 30 years’ experience in architecture, of which<br />

20 have been in the design and management of projects. His<br />

project work to date spans a wide scope of building types and<br />

project scales nationally and internationally, and includes<br />

medium- to large-scale innovative recreation retreats,<br />

commercial/public projects, large-scale sophistication, urban<br />

interventions and civic projects, rural and urban design,<br />

airport and rapid-transit projects, and town planning.<br />

Vaughan’s strengths are in bringing vision to design and


developing unique and outstanding contemporary solutions<br />

to project opportunities on a wide range of scales, as well as<br />

being a hands-on project manager and project architect. His<br />

involvement covers front-end design process through the<br />

construction administration process. Vaughan joined Kasian<br />

in July 2005, became an associate in March 2006 and<br />

principal in July 2008.<br />

Mr Victor Vaessen, Manager Product<br />

Netherlands<br />

Victor Vaessen is Manager, Product Development within KLM<br />

Ground Services. Previously he was a Senior Purser and a<br />

Product Manager for inflight products. He is experienced<br />

with product development strategies and customer<br />

relationship management. Within KLM ground services his<br />

team is responsible for future developments including<br />

Redesigning <strong>Passenger</strong> Process (a visionary programme<br />

together with Amsterdam Airport Schiphol), and with<br />

projects like self-service baggage drop-off, self-service<br />

transfer, mobile check-in, etc. The team is also focusing on<br />

customer-related staff behaviour and exceeding service for<br />

Premium customers including fast tracks, Premium waiting<br />

areas at the gate, Premium lounge renovation, entertainment<br />

in Premium lounges, etc.<br />

Mr Vijender Sharma, Senior Consultant -<br />

Marketing, Business Development and<br />

Strategy, Fraport India, India<br />

Vijender Sharma, currently working for Fraport India at its<br />

New Delhi office, has extensive industry experience of over<br />

nine years. He has worked in diverse segments ranging from<br />

tour operations to airlines and airports. He is a qualified<br />

tourism professional with a post-graduate diploma in<br />

Tourism and a Masters in Business Administration. In the<br />

past nine years, Vijender has worked for reputed<br />

organisations including Galileo India (a major GDS around<br />

the world), Oman Air and Delhi International Airport<br />

Limited. He handled the marketing and business<br />

development functions in Galileo India, and was responsible<br />

for the passenger sales and holidays division of Oman Air. In<br />

his current position he is responsible for new business<br />

development for Fraport in India and Asian region.<br />

Ms Virginie Allard, Regional Manager<br />

Security and Faciliation Europe, IATA,<br />

Switzerland<br />

Biography: With a French and English Master of Arts degree<br />

in Modern European Studies (European and International<br />

Law and Economics), Virginie Allard has worked with Air<br />

France for 12 years. She started at Ground Operations on<br />

Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport, then became in charge of<br />

the Hub internal communication. In 2003 Virginie entered<br />

the AF Corporate Security Division as a Security Manager in<br />

charge of Legal and International Affairs. Used to dealing<br />

with international security regulations, Virginie very recently<br />

joined IATA as the new Security and Facilitation Regional<br />

Dr William Fullerton, Senior Vice<br />

President, The Louis Berger Group, USA<br />

Bill Fullerton offers more than 25 years of experience and<br />

demonstrated success in the design, construction and<br />

operation of complex investment projects worldwide. He has<br />

provided direct oversight for numerous airport development<br />

projects, including the airport concessions for the Jorge<br />

Chavez International Airport in Lima, Peru, and the Queen<br />

Alia International Airport in Amman, Jordan. His clients<br />

include global airport operators Changi Airports<br />

International, Aeroports de Paris and ADC-HAS, among<br />

others, as well as airport and aviation authorities in Asia,<br />

Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. These projects<br />

prioritise revenue enhancement as a key planning and design<br />

Mr Yudhishter Aggarwal, AVP<br />

India<br />

Yudhishter Aggarwal is Associate Vice President (Operations)<br />

heading the Slot Coordination and Capacity Optimisation<br />

department at Delhi International Airport Ltd, IGI Airport,<br />

New Delhi, India. Earlier, while with Airports Authority of<br />

India, he was associated with the master planning and also<br />

operation of the airside and terminal operations of<br />

international airports at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and<br />

Chennai.<br />

Mr Zhixiong Thomas Pan, Engineer,<br />

Changi Airport Group (Singapore) Pte<br />

Ltd, Singapore<br />

Thomas Pan Zhixiong is a Mechanical Engineer with the<br />

Engineering and Development Group (E&DG) of the Changi<br />

Airport Group (CAG). He currently holds the position of<br />

Engineer for the Technology and Systems Division under<br />

E&DG, specialising in scanning the industry for new<br />

applications or technologies to enhance airport safety,<br />

security, operational safety and the environmental<br />

friendliness of the airport. He also explores the<br />

implementation of commercially sustainable airport<br />

environmental projects (supported by cost-benefit analysis).<br />

Thomas is currently in charge of managing the solar<br />

photovoltaic (PV) project at the Budget <strong>Terminal</strong>, ensuring<br />

timely delivery of the PV system within budget.
