Cyclopital3DNewsISSUE 01 Q1 2011Expand the Capabilities of Your Fuji W3 & W1Close-up 3D photography produces some of the most stunning imagespossible in the art. One reason that close-up 3D photos and video are sostunning is because of the “Gigantism” that results from reducing thestereo-base of the camera to less than that of our eye spacing; sort of likeyou were a mouse looking up at a GIANT world in 3D!Photo by George Themelis (aka Dr.-T)Close-up/Macro AdapterThe 75mm fixed lens spacing of the Fuji W3 limits how close you can getto your subject and still achieve a high quality 3D photo. As you get closerto your subject, parallax increases; too much parallax can negativelyimpact the results of your 3D photos or videos. The Cyclopital3D Close-up/Macro adapter uses perfectly aligned, highquality, front surface mirrors to effectively reduce the stereo base of yourFuji W3 or W1 to 25mm. This shortening of the stereo base allows you toget 3X closer to your subject while avoiding excessive parallax andincreases the common area seen by both lenses. And now, you can takeclose-up actions shots too! Dr. T shot the photo above using theCyclopital3D Close-up/Macro Adapter on his Fuji W3 camera. The Adapter’s 72mm lens ring allows you to attach a lens hood for shadeor athis issueClose-up/Macro Adapter P.1 & 2ALA & Cyclopital3D News P.33D Link & Groups P.4“Macro” lens to obtain even greatermagnification, further extending yourcamera’s range and allowing you to getmere inches from your subject!Continued on Page 2...

Close-up/Macro AdapterTechnicalConsiderationsThe techniques used in Macro 3Dphotography have much in commonwith Macro 2D photography. However, there are twofundamental technicalconsiderations unique to Macro 3D:Total Stereoscopic Deviation andCommon Coverage.Total Stereoscopic Deviation is theangular measure of how far youreyes must rotate when you lookfrom the closest object in the sceneto the furthest. For comfortableviewing this angle should be keptbelow about 4 degrees (2˚per eye).As you get closer to your subject, allthe angles rapidly become moreacute, so you must stay alert to theacceptable distance range betweenthe camera and the objects in thescene. The table below describesthe range increase that the Closeup/MacroAdapter provides.Common Coverage is the part ofthe stereoscopic scene that iscommon to both the right and leftimages. The more that is common, the better.Product Highlights Reduces stereo base from 75mmto 25mm Hot shoe mount & trigger forexternal flash* Neck strap anchors fit 3/8” or10mm strap width Convenient hand grip is easy tohold Built in 72mm lens ring enablesattachment of additional Close-uplens, ring flash filter or lens hood Tripod mount Precision mirror alignment Sealed mirror chamberClose-up/Macro AdapterClose-Up/Macro Adapter Specifications & ComparisonsMinimum Focus DistanceWITHOUT Infinity in thebackground (a pure close-up)Min Focus Distance(max zoom, maxmagnification)On-ScreenMagnification(camera display)Field of View atFocus Plane(width)Max depth ofScene for 3 ˚ParallaxFuji W3 (camera only) 20" 0.5 2.5" 11"With Close-up Adapter 12" 0.75 2.5" 21"With Adapter & Close-up Lens 6" 1.6 1.1" 3"
