SMITH MEMORIAL -- The Student Government Association established an<br />
endowed scholarship in memory of the late Anne K. Smith, a chemical dependency<br />
counseling student from Snow Hill. Income from the endowment<br />
is used for the annual scholarships. Recipients must have completed at least<br />
15 credit hours in one of <strong>Wor</strong>-<strong>Wic</strong>’s credit programs of study, have a 3.00<br />
grade point average and currently be registered for at least six credit hours.<br />
Selection is based on scholastic achievement. Preference is given to students<br />
who are majoring in chemical dependency counseling.<br />
VERIZON -- Verizon Maryland provides $3,800 in scholarship funds for students<br />
enrolled in <strong>Wor</strong>-<strong>Wic</strong>'s early childhood education transfer program. Selection<br />
is based on scholastic achievement, and recipients must maintain a<br />
3.00 grade point average.<br />
Local Need-Based Scholarships<br />

A variety of scholarships with a need-based component are available to <strong>Wor</strong>-<br />
<strong>Wic</strong> students through funding provided by individuals, businesses and organizations<br />
associated with the college or the college’s foundation. All registered<br />
students who have completed the FAFSA before June 1 are automatically<br />
considered for all need-based scholarships, except where specific criteria<br />
are outlined in the following descriptions:<br />
BRUNKHORST -- Lois E. Brunkhorst, RN, of Berlin, established an endowed<br />
scholarship for students enrolled in <strong>Wor</strong>-<strong>Wic</strong>’s nursing or radiologic technology<br />
program. Income from the endowment is used for the annual scholarships.<br />
Applicants must be officially admitted into the program. They must<br />
demonstrate financial need and have a 3.00 grade point average. First preference<br />
is given to nursing students, with second priority to students enrolled in<br />
the radiologic technology program.<br />
BUNTING MEMORIAL -- The Ocean City Hotel-Motel-Restaurant Association<br />
provides $1,000 in scholarship funds each year for this scholarship,<br />
which is named for the late Kate Bunting, a past president and member of the<br />
board of directors. Applicants must be enrolled in the hotel-motel-restaurant<br />
management program, and working or planning to work in the hospitality industry<br />
in Ocean City. Selection is based on financial need and scholastic<br />
achievement. Recipients must maintain a 3.00 grade point average.<br />
CALAFIURA -- Marie Calafiura of Salisbury provides $1,500 in scholarship<br />
funds to pay the tuition of students from <strong>Wor</strong>cester, <strong>Wic</strong>omico or Somerset<br />
County who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university. Applicants<br />
must have completed at least 36 credit hours in general studies or any other<br />
transfer degree program offered by the college. Selection is based on financial<br />
need, and recipients must maintain a 2.80 grade point average.
