One of the joys ofour College is the diversity of its members – diverse in terms of cultural backgrounds, socio economic status,different talents and aspirations, academic diversity and religious diversity.I am sure we will find many opportunities this year to celebrate this theme and also ways to enhance thesense of unity across the College. We look forward to the SRC giving their understanding of this theme andstructuring their priorities around this understanding.Parent Information Evenings / Gatherings in February / MarchWe also look forward to meeting many parents at our Parent Information evenings. These events are an idealway to meet teachers, gain information specific to your daughter, meet the parents of your daughters’ friendsand, in particular, meet her friends, old and new.• Year 7 Parent Information Evening on Thursday, February 10 th 7.00pm to 8.30pm: Parents willbe provided with valuable information on the forthcoming Yr 7 Camp and the Yr 7 curriculum. Therewill also be an opportunity to meet teachers including your daughter’s homeroom teacher. It is mostimportant that Yr 7 parents attend this meeting with their daughters.• Year 8 Parent Information Evening on Monday, February 14 th 7.00pm: The focus of this eveningis the City Cite Experience.• Years 9 and 10 Parent Information Evening Thursday, 10 th March, 7.00 to 8.30pm: Again a veryimportant evening in terms of dissemination of information and the opportunity to meet the teachersof your daughter.• VCE – Meet the Teachers Evening Thursday 3 rd March 7.00pm: Teachers of Years 11 and 12 willbe present.• Years 7 BBQ – Wednesday, 16 th March 5.00pm to 7.00pm in the College courtyard – A socialoccasion for parents to meet one another and staff.Letter from CollegeAll parents should have received a letter from the College outlining our expectations for 2011, a CollegeCalendar, College Contact Details for 2011 and other information. Please note that “application for enrolment” forms are available from Ms Morena Misseri, Principal’s PersonalAssistant and are also on our website, www.academy.vic.edu.au. As well, application forms are available fromeach of our main feeder schools. It is imperative that 2011 Grade 6 sisters of current Academy students lodgeindividual enrolment forms. Please do not assume that sisters will gain automatic entry into the Collegeas we need application forms to record their existence and identity. All applications must beregistered at the College prior to Wednesday, 2 nd March 2011.VCE ResultsWe are delighted with the success of our 2010 VCE students. CollegeDux was Nicola Smyth with an ATAR Score of 99.65. CatherineMurphy gained and ATAR score of 98.2 and 16% of students gained anATAR Score greater than 90. We were also thrilled to see a number ofstudents achieving their personal best and achieving results whichallowed them access to the Tertiary option of their choice.Congratulations girls!Yesterday we acknowledge our 2010 High Achievers at the CollegeAssembly. College Dux, Nicola Smyth, provided inspiration to the girlswith her speech. A number of our High Achievers also help positions ofleadership last year and were able to balance the demands of their roleand the demands of study.Hot WeatherThe month of February is always very hot weather wise. Could I assure you that the College is well able tocater for students during the hot weather as every classroom in the College is air-conditioned. During periodswhen it is extremely hot an announcement will be made informing students that they are not required to wear(or bring) their blazer to school.Mary PoppinsCongratulations to Year 8 student , Victoria Borcsok, who is currently starring in themusical Mary Poppins. I was fortunate to see the production during the holidays and it iswell worth seeing. Victoria’s performance is quite extraordinary.
