Year 9 students have the option <strong>of</strong> completing Advanced Mathematics. This enables us to provide the mostappropriate content and assessment for all students. Mathematics teachers have explained the process totheir classes and interested students are asked to return the form to their teacher as soon as possible.Year 7 and Year 8 students have to option to participate in the Enrichment Mathematics program. Thisprogram is <strong>of</strong>fered to enthusiastic and capable students who are keen to work on challenging activities andparticipate in various Mathematics competitions. Information about this program will be distributed bymathematics teachers next week.The Australian Mathematics Competition will be held in August and is a competition open to all students.We do ask though, that students who decide to participate will need to prepare for this event by completingprevious papers and studying content areas. Previous papers can be sourced from SIMON and yourmathematics teacher. The castnow needs to get a move on as we approach opening night in May.Millie Sedlarevic and The Western Australian <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> Performing ArtsCongratulations to Millie Sedlarevic, Music Captain Year 12, 2010, for being <strong>of</strong>fered a position at WAAPA -The Western Australian <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> Performing Arts (WAAPA) at Edith Cowan University. WAAPA isrecognised nationally and internationally for the quality <strong>of</strong> its graduates. WAAPA provides the mostcomprehensive range <strong>of</strong> performing arts training in Australia and students can choose from a range <strong>of</strong>internationally recognised courses. World-class staff working in state-<strong>of</strong>-the-art performance and teachingfacilities provide rigorous and specialised training <strong>of</strong> the highest order. These courses <strong>of</strong>fer students theopportunity to realise their artistic ambitions. Entry into the courses is competitive and prospective studentsundertake an audition and / or interview as part <strong>of</strong> the application process. The <strong>Academy</strong> communality wouldlike to wish Millie all the best as she moves to Western Australia to pursue her career in Music, Acting, Songand Dance.Grease The MusicalWith only 95 days to go until opening night, the cast and crew <strong>of</strong> “Grease, The Musical” have been workinghard to put together a production <strong>of</strong> exceptional quality. After having a huge success with last year’s “Leader<strong>of</strong> the Pack”, the cast <strong>of</strong> “Grease” is looking forward to the challenges ahead and aims to make this year’smusical even better than the last. Together with the help <strong>of</strong> Mr Hessey, Mrs Appleby and our team <strong>of</strong>choreographers, we have succeeded in perfecting the first <strong>of</strong> our dances, which were showcased at thePerforming Arts Concert last year.Over our relaxing 8 week holiday, the cast had three extra rehearsals; the first involved just the leads andproduction team in order to fine tune the script and get the performance skills up to scratch; the other twowere attended by the full cast to get to grips with the new dances. The cast are really looking forward toperforming “Grease”, as it is such a well-known and popular musical and movie. With our <strong>Academy</strong> girls, andthe Simonds boys, “Grease, The Musical” is certainly a performance not to be missed!Harriet Darby Year 11, Production TeamInstrumental Music LessonsAll students who have private music lessons are to check their lesson times on the timetable located in themusic room. Please notify directly in advance your instrumental teacher if you cannot attend your lessons. Ifthere are any other concerns about private instrumental music lessons please see Mr. Hessey or MrsJessicaSynaphet, Music Secretary, located in the student <strong>of</strong>fice.
