Applicationforms will be made available to allmembers, and be downloadablefrom the IOV website. But what’sthe point in entering?I don’t think a year has goneby without some controversyover who should have won andwho shouldn’t and, to be honest,I don’t think this will ever change- regardless of the judgingprocess or, indeed, who judgesthe awards. That’s the nature ofcreative awards, in that oneman’s meat is another man’spoison. Personal preferencesand dislikes are all part of whatis a creative appreciationprocess. However, this is not agood reason to shy away fromentering what has become ourindustry’s leading productionawards. In fact, it should bewhat inspires you to enter. The categories will be thesame this year - Best Corporate,Best Wedding, Best Documentaryand Best Open Category - whichpretty much sums up the areasof production our membership isinvolved in. Any productionwithin these categories can beentered, as long as they werecompleted between the lastawards ceremony (27th April2005) and the deadline (1stAugust 2006).Whilst you might think this isan easy deadline to meet, wehope you will start to think nowThis MonthFEATURESThe CookRetort14 Video Forum ReviewKevin Cook reports on the 2006 Video Forum Exhibition18 Seeing GreenMark Brindle reviews Reflecmedia’s Chromakey solution22 Making the most of www.iov.comMartin Baker explains the implications and controls of the latestupgrade to the IOV’s website31 Saving Energy - Why Bother?John Allard introduces a new series on energysaving innovationsabout what you aregoing to enter (and, yes, you do have tobe a current member). Treatthis as your reminder, and whenthe entry forms are made ready -please deal with it ASAP.You don’t have to spend toolong on the Internet to find howbeneficial winning an IOV Awardhas become. Just type in ‘IOVAwards’ in Google and you’ll seehow previous winners andnominees quite rightly shoutabout them from the rooftops.Regardless of your opinion ofthose that win, the awardsjudging process, or any otherelement of this valuablemembership benefit - you cannotdeny that winning an IOV Awardmight help you to expand yourbusiness. It’s free to enter so you havenothing to lose. In fact, by notentering you’re on to a loserstraight away - as you’ll lose theright to knock those that havehad the nerve. It happens everyyear, and it always seems to bethe same people who criticise thewinning entries - and its normallythose that couldn’t/wouldn’t getan entry in on time.Like the Lottery, if you arenot in it - you can’t win it. Butunlike the Lottery, the odds ofwinning are far more realistic.
