What are YOU gonna do about…DIZZINESS & FAINTING?DIZZINESSDizziness is a symptom, usually combined with feeling sick to the stomach,sweating, <strong>and</strong> feeling some kind of movement that really isn’t there.Things to watch for…If dizzy feeling does not pass quickly or is really badFainting or passing outVapors, mist or strange smellsWhat to do…• Have victim sit or lie down <strong>and</strong> close their eyes or focuson a nearby object that is not moving.• Tell victim to try to keep their head still.FAINTINGFainting is a temporary loss of consciousness (passes out) <strong>and</strong> may indicatea more serious condition. It’s usually caused due to a lack of oxygenatedblood to the brain. Be aware several types of injuries could cause fainting.Things to watch for…Visible injuries like bleeding from the ears or a biteor stingPupils are enlarged or very small (if different sizes, itcould be a stroke)Vapors, mist or strange smellsBluish color of skin, lips, fingertips or nails (may not begetting air - see BREATHING PROBLEMS)What to do…• If victim is still passed out, put victim on their side to keepan open airway.• Once victim is awake, gently roll them onto their back.• Prop feet <strong>and</strong> the lower part of legs up with pillows orsomething (only if victim is not hurt).• Loosen any tight clothing, esp. around neck <strong>and</strong> waist.• Check ABCs...
