SECTION 3: PROGRAM STANDARDSATTENDANCEA student enrolled in the <strong>LA</strong> 4 Prekindergarten Program shall adhere to the attendancerequirements as outlined in Bulletin 741 (St<strong>and</strong>ard 1055.01).• After eligible students have been absent for more than 23 days, <strong>LA</strong> 4Prekindergarten Program funds may be suspended for that child.• The LEA shall develop an appropriate intervention plan with parents/guardians ofany child having chronic absenteeism or chronic tardiness.C<strong>LA</strong>SS SIZE LIMITATIONThe maximum number of children enrolled in one prekindergarten program shallbe no more than 20.Each class shall have a child-to-lead teacher ratio of no more than 20 to 1 <strong>and</strong> a childto-adult staff member ratio of no more than 10 to 1. Failure to maintain the appropriatestaff/child ratios may jeopardize a provider’s future participation.CORPORAL PUNISHMENT POLICYNo form of demeaning language or corporal punishment (which includes but is notlimited to paddling, striking, or hitting) shall be used with any child enrolled in the <strong>LA</strong> 4Prekindergarten Program or before- <strong>and</strong> after-school enrichment activities.HEALTH REQUIREMENTSA child must have age-appropriate immunizations or a signed statement against suchimmunizations as pursuant to R.S. 17:170. A photocopy of the immunizationdocumentation must be secured at the time of registration or entry into prekindergarten<strong>and</strong> must be kept on file at the child’s attendance site.The LEA shall ensure that all prekindergarten children have their hearing <strong>and</strong> visionscreened within 90 days of participating in the <strong>LA</strong> 4 Prekindergarten Program.Exceptions from this requirement will be made when documentation is available,indicating that a child was provided with hearing <strong>and</strong> vision screenings within theprevious four-month period <strong>and</strong> results were found to be within the normal range.Additionally, it is recommended that providers work with health departments <strong>and</strong> otherhealth professionals to secure basic dental screens within the 90-day time frame.No child should exit prekindergarten with an undetected condition that will impedehis/her ability to learn.8<strong>LA</strong> 4 <strong>Guidelines</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Implementation</strong> H<strong>and</strong>book
