Dear Fruita Community,During the past four years, the City of Fruita has been investing resources in developing additional parks andrecreation facilities, namely the Little Salt Wash Park and Fruita Community Center. These new facilities willpromote the City’s long-held goal of maintaining our small town atmosphere and staff is excited about theopportunity to provide additional recreation programs and events further bringing our community together.As long-lasting programs (such as Fruita Little League) benefit from the City’s addition of Little Salt WashPark, City recreation staff is programming the park with new programs including youth soccer, adult kickball,fitness boot camp, youth flag football, disc golf and adult softball (adult softball is being offered for the firsttime this Fall). We will continue to maximize the demands and use of this park to preserve the quality of thefacility while offering recreational opportunities for our residents.The Fruita Community Center is currently scheduled to open in January 2011. A lot of planning to design andconstruct the community center has and continues to occur. You can see those results when you drive by theFruita Community Center site at 324 North Coulson. But design and construction is only part of the story. Alot of planning and preparation is taking place to get staff and the community ready. Facility operations arebeing developed, new staff is being hired and trained, informational materials are being created, and newprograms are being planned as we all ready for opening day in January.To help manage these new facilities, the City ‘cut-over’ on July 1st to a new recreation management softwaresystem, called RecTrac. This new system will help staff manage program registrations, facility schedules(including parks), community center memberships, and conduct point-of-sale purchases. We are particularlyexcited about the WebTrac module of the new system. WebTrac will allow you, our customer, the abilityto review facility schedules as well as read about and register for recreation programs online, without aconvenience fees. The WebTrac module is scheduled for launch on August 1st.The City is invested in maintaining our great small-town atmosphere and as Parks and Recreation staff westrive to offer facilities and programs that bring our community together. Please take a look at the manyprograms and events being offered in this Activity Guide and then get out and play. Youth Sports PhilosophyFruita strives to allow all children the opportunity to have fun, participate, and learn fundamental sports skills. Youth sports will atall times stress the importance of sportsmanship, respect, teamwork, and self-discipline through healthy and fair competition.Parents and Volunteer CoachesYouth sports programs rely on volunteers. We encourage anyone who loves working with kids to become a volunteer coach. Teamswill be formed based on the number of volunteer coaches who agree to coach. There is no guarantee that all children who registerwill be on a team if there are not enough volunteers available to coach.Registration is open now!Avoid a late fee of $5.00 by registering before August 20, 2010YOUTH SOCCERGames begin September 11, 2010. All games will be played on Saturdays. Teams will be scheduled to play 8 games total. Whileevery attempt will be made to make-up games that are cancelled, we cannot guarantee 8 games.Practices begin August 30, 2010. Practices will take place up to two times a week at local parks. Practice schedules will bedetermined by coaches and park availability.Teams will be selected at random based on grade level. Teams created in the fall will be kept together for spring league. BOYS AND GIRLS YOUTH BASKETBALLKids, hit the court bouncing, passing, and shooting. Fruita Parks and Recreation will continue to interleague with Grand Junction Parks andRecreation this year. Residents in the Fruita area are welcome to register with Fruita. Fruita Parks and Recreation will create teams, schedulepractices, order t-shirts, and schedule pictures for those who register with FPR. Games will be scheduled by Grand Junction Parks and Recreationand will be played at various middle schools throughout the valley. Fruita Parks and Recreation teams will play games in the Grand Junction Parksand Recreation league.League Information: Teams are formed by Parks and Recreation staff based on school attendance area. NO requests for coaches willbe taken or granted. ONE carpool request may be submitted per child, and that request is not guaranteed. Liberties CheerleadingFruita Cheerleading is offered throughout theyear for youth ages 4-14. Several differentclasses are offered for various age groups andskill levels. Participants will have the opportunityto perform in the Fruita Fall Festival, FruitaParade of Lights, and Regional’s Competition.Little Liberties, Advanced Liberties, and JuniorLiberties are open to all youth.
