D13 OnTour: ESPRIT Project No. 26956Resellers get the collected “vouchers” (= OTC data) of their clients (= buyers). The fullelectronic processing and exchange of the travel documents allows the OnTour client applicationto evaluate automatically whether the received vouchers correspond to thebooked services.5.2.2 Seller ProcessesThe “sell tourist services” process (cf. diagram number 3) is subdivided into five tasks. Incontrast to model of the as-is situation the “carry out services” task is not considered in theto-be situation, since it is not supported by OnTour system.A1 Define condition of productFirst task of the seller process is the definition of the product conditions. Task A1 transformsthe product concept into the actual product by defining the surcharges, profit margins, cancellation fees, etc. In case of resellers (destination agencies, tour operators andtravel agencies) the product concept is a result of the “buy tourist services” process (cf.IDEF0 diagram number 1), whereas suppliers have to specify their concepts first in accordanceto their specific resources and the expected market demand. The conditions depend for example on the company strategy, the market situation and theuniqueness of the product. Information regarding the trends in the tourism sector, as containedin e.g. statistics and market surveys, provides a valuable input for the decision process. Moreover, the selling success of the offered products influences the determination ofthe product conditions. Therefore, it is important the sale data (reservation and cancellationinformation) of the company in order to promote the selling process by special offers likelast minute. The feedback arrow labelled “need for alternative offer” indicate the situation that a buyerhas asked for special services or prices (cf. task A3). As consequence, the conditions of therespective offer have to be redefined.Computerised task processingThe fixation of product conditions like prices can hardly be automated since prices dependon several soft facts, that make the algorithmic computation very difficult. Nevertheless, the general terms and conditions of the company (e.g. cancellation fee, date of paymentetc.) should be defined once with in the application and adapted on demand. For defining the product conditions the software has to provide access to up-to-date statisticsand market surveys as well as the current sales information.OnTourAs already described in the task A1 of the buyer processes, the OnTour server will provideaccess to uploaded market surveys and statistics about the transactions carried out via theOnTour server. Service providers can also always retrieve the current booking status oftheir services from the server. The required management of the general product conditions will be realised by respectiveprofiles (similar to the profiles for the buyer’s booking data) containing the standard conditionsof the company.7 June 1999 D13V04S3 Page 31
