In Memoriam• John Barwick Porter (1926-1930)of Toowoomba passed away inOctober 2012, aged 99. At thetime he was recognised as <strong>Ipswich</strong><strong>Grammar</strong>’s oldest known <strong>Old</strong> Boy.Mr Porter was Dux in 1930, winningan Open Scholarship and a LewisThomas Award, and returned as ateacher from 1935-1938.• Donald ‘Sandy’ McNab (1929-1935) of Sandgate died in December2012, aged 96. He was one ofthree surviving members of thepremiership-winning 1934 rugbyteam and was selected at fullbackfor the Combined GPS Firsts.• Harold Frederick Vollbrecht (1937-)of North <strong>Ipswich</strong> died in June 2013,aged 91.• John Henry Curtis CB FTSE FIEAust(1936-1940) of Sinnamon Villagedied on 10 July, aged 93. Afterservice in World War II as a FlightLieutenant in the RAAF, he wasamong the first graduates of UQ’sBE Communications degree andjoined the PMG’s Department inBrisbane. After rising to the positionof State Director, in 1975 he wasappointed the inaugural ManagingDirector of the new AustralianTelecommunications Commission,trading as Telecom Australia.• Herbert Leslie Watkins (1937-1939) of Bundaberg died in October2012, aged 89.• William Stretton Napier (1938-1939) of St Ives NSW died inNovember 2012, aged 88.• Thomas George McCrindle (1940-)of <strong>Ipswich</strong> died in November 2012,aged 87.• Arthur Henry Rosentreter (1947-1948) of Broadbeach died in May2012, aged 78.• Trevor Alan Duce (1948-49) ofHelensvale died in March 2012, aged 78.• Donald Trevor Barrett (1950-1951) of <strong>Ipswich</strong> died in September2012, aged 77. Mr Barrett made asignificant contribution to IGS and<strong>Ipswich</strong> for 50 years. He was Bursarfrom 1961-1998 and the role ofSecretary to the Board of Trusteeswas added to his responsibilities in1977. After years helping behind thescenes, his wife Pam joined IGS in1981, serving for more than 20 years.• William Ralph Gray (1952-1953) ofCaloundra died in May 2012, aged 74.• Geoffrey Edgar Thomas Jones(1955-1958) of <strong>Ipswich</strong> died inMarch 2013, aged 71. Mr Jones wasan outstanding sportsman at IGS. Inlater years when his children wereattending the <strong>Grammar</strong> <strong>School</strong>shis interest in coaching athleticsbecame a passion which continuedon to <strong>Ipswich</strong> athletics.• Larry Ronald Jensen (1961-1964)of Torquay died in September 2008,aged 61.• Tim Ling (-1990) of Birkdale died inFebruary 2013, aged 39.• Michael James Reading (1998-1999) a qualified MedicalPractitioner and veterinarian, died inDecember 2012 on his 30 birthday.• Diego Codyre (2002-2006) died inOctober 2012, aged 23.
