Letters <strong>of</strong> introductionNGĀTI HAUĀ DEED OF SETTLEMENT5: CULTURAL REDRESS: GENERAL5.9 The Minister for Treaty <strong>of</strong> Waitangi Negotiations will, by or on the settlement date, writea letter to each <strong>of</strong> the Crown agencies, local authorities, entities and museums set outin part 1 <strong>of</strong> the documents schedule, introducing Ngāti Hauā, the Tumuaki, and thetrustees.5.10 The purpose <strong>of</strong> the letter <strong>of</strong> introduction referred to in clause 5.9 is to -5.10.1 raise the pr<strong>of</strong>ile <strong>of</strong> Ngāti Hauā, and the Tumuaki, with the Crown agencies,local authorities, entities, and museums receiving it; and5.10.2 provide a platform for better engagement between Ngāti Hauā and the Crownagencies, local authorities, entities, and museums in the future.RECOGNITION OF TE KAUWHANGANUI O MĀHUTA5.11 The Crown acknowledges and recognises the importance <strong>of</strong> Te Kauwhanganui oMāhuta as a key part <strong>of</strong> the historical claims.Restoration fund5.12 The parties acknowledge that $1,000,000 <strong>of</strong> the financial and commercial redressamount is to be used to help restore Te Kauwhanganui o Māhuta (as provided byclause 7.3.2).Relationship agreement in relation to Te Kauwhanganui o Māhuta5.13 Ngāti Hauā, the Department <strong>of</strong> Internal Affairs (Archives and National LibraryFunctions) and the Museum <strong>of</strong> New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa Board have enteredinto a relationship agreement in relation to Te Kauwhanganui o Māhuta, in the form setout in part 3 <strong>of</strong> the attachments, with respect to the restoration and protection <strong>of</strong> TeKauwhanganui o Māhuta and the care, management, use, development andrevitalisation <strong>of</strong> Ngāti Hauā taonga.Taonga tūturu protocol5.14 The Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage must, by or on the settlement date, sign thetaonga tūturu protocol in the form set out in part 2 <strong>of</strong> the documents schedule and issuethat protocol to the trustees.5.15 The taonga tūturu protocol will -5.15.1 set out how the Crown will interact with Ngāti Hauā with regard to the mattersset out in it; and5.15.2 be issued under, and subject to, the terms provided by sections 21 to 25 <strong>of</strong>the draft settlement bill.CULTURAL REDRESS PROPERTIESKaitiaki-a-Rohe5.16 The Crown acknowledges the intention <strong>of</strong> Ngāti Hauā that following settlement thetrustees will transfer the statutory acknowledgements to the relevant Kaitiaki-a-Rohe.41
NGĀTI HAUĀ DEED OF SETTLEMENT5: CULTURAL REDRESS: GENERALThe trustees will notify the Crown and relevant parties <strong>of</strong> the Kaitiaki-a-Rohe that willreceive and benefit from the relevant statutory acknowledgement oracknowledgements.Sites <strong>of</strong> significance to be vested5.17 The settlement legislation will -5.17.1 vest in the trustees on the settlement date each <strong>of</strong> the following sites:As a scenic reserve subject to an easementMaungakawa(a)the fee simple estate in Maungakawa, being part <strong>of</strong> Te Tapui ScenicReserve, as a scenic reserve, with the trustees as the administeringbody, subject to the trustees providing a registrable easement in relationto that site in the form in part 3 <strong>of</strong> the documents schedule;As scenic reservesGordon Gow Scenic Reserve(b)the fee simple estate in Gordon Gow Scenic Reserve, as a scenicreserve, with the trustees as the administering body;Pukemako site A(c)the fee simple estate in Pukemako site A, being the MaungakawaScenic Reserve, as a scenic reserve, with a joint board appointed by thetrustees and the Waipa District Council (joint board) as theadministering body;As a historic reservePukemako site B(d)the fee simple estate in Pukemako site B, being the Gudex MemorialPark Historic Reserve, as a historic reserve, with the joint board as theadministering body.Vesting and alternative description <strong>of</strong> Pukemako site A in specifiedcircumstances5.18 The settlement legislation will provide -5.18.1 exchange agreement means the agreement for an exchange <strong>of</strong> land relatingto parts <strong>of</strong> Pukemako site A between Cornelius Willem Keiser, EleanorBeatrice Thomass and Her Majesty the Queen, dated 10 September 2012;and42
