NGĀTI HAUĀ DEED OF SETTLEMENT9: GENERAL, DEFINITIONS AND INTERPRETATION9.6.2 Ngāti Hauā ancestor means an individual who exercised customary rights byvirtue <strong>of</strong> being descended from -(a)Hauā; or(b) a recognised ancestor <strong>of</strong> any <strong>of</strong> the groups referred to in clause 9.5.2who exercised customary rights predominantly in relation to the area <strong>of</strong>interest any time after 6 February 1840.9.6.3 customary rights means rights according to tikanga Māori (Māori customaryvalues and practices), including -(a)(b)rights to occupy land; andrights in relation to the use <strong>of</strong> land or other natural or physical resources.TUMUAKI AND NEGOTIATORS9.7 In this deed -9.7.1 Tumuaki means the individual anointed, in accordance with the tikanga <strong>of</strong>Ngāti Hauā, as the Tumuaki <strong>of</strong> the Kīngitanga and Rangitira <strong>of</strong> Ngāti Hauāwho, at the date <strong>of</strong> this deed, is Andrew Te Awaitaia Thompson; and9.7.2 negotiators means the following individuals:(a)(b)(c)Mokoro Gillett <strong>of</strong> Waharoa, School Principal:Lance Rapana <strong>of</strong> Waharoa, Project Manager:Willie Te Aho, <strong>of</strong> Hamilton, Director.ADDITIONAL DEFINITIONS9.8 The definitions in part 6 <strong>of</strong> the general matters schedule apply to this deed.INTERPRETATION9.9 Part 7 <strong>of</strong> the general matters schedule applies to the interpretation <strong>of</strong> this deed.68
