This summer we willbe “BACKPACKING THROUGHTHE GENRES”We will explore literacy in anexciting way. Bring your imaginationand come discover great reading strategies with us as wedelve into 12 different literacy genres. We will finish ourexploration with a learning activity any explorer would loveto do.This reading skills camp will place emphasis on readingcomprehension, by using a combination of children’sliterature, concentration exercises, hands-on experiences, andresearch-based strategies. We want reading to become oneof your favorite activities.
Seminole State College Page 15In this program your child will practicereading skills that are important tobecoming successful independentreaders.The Developing Readers program is designed for studentsin grades 1 through 3, or older readers who may need extrapractice with developing reading skills.Throughout this 8 day camp students will spend timereading high interest fiction and non-fiction materials.Students will use a combination of hands on andinteractive activities to practice phonics, word attackskills, sight words and become better readers by increasingfluency and comprehension skills.The purpose of the program is to give students anopportunity to enhance their reading comprehensionskills such as recalling information and details,following sequence of events,locating the main idea, drawingconclusions, predictingoutcomes, and classifying.Date: June 18 through June 28, 2012Class meets Monday through Thursday for 2 weeksTime: 9:00-11:00 a.m.or1:00-3:00 p.m.Place: Enoch Kelly Haney Center Room 104Instructor: Tamee DanielPrice: $59.00
