U Kuvare of the Faculty of Agricultureand Natural Resources and assessedthe current and ongoing projects andprogrammes of the UNDP to identifyexisting coping strategies with regardsto climate change and variability. Healso undertook a Feasibility Study on theDevelopment of an Integrated Maricultureand Agriculture Youth Project at the Townof Henties Bay for the National YouthServices and embarked on a project onConservation Agriculture.Community EngagementMembers of the Faculty continued torender their expertise to the Nationby serving as members of numerousBoards, the Engineering Council ofNamibia, the Namibia Qualifi cationsAuthority as well as on regional andinternational professional bodies. TheFaculty linked up with local Engineeringcompanies, notably Kuku Agri (Pty) andConsulting Services Africa leading tothe establishment of mutually benefi tingpartnerships. The Minister of Mines andEnergy appointed Mr E. Ruhunga to serveas a Member of the Advisory Committeeof the Namibia Renewable EnergyProgramme (NAMREP).Through the contacts made in the AMSENproject, Professor Kavishe is the cosupervisorof postgraduate students, oneat the University of Nairobi and four at theUniversity of the Witswatersrand in SouthAfrica.Dr Ogunmokun was invited to join theConservation Agriculture TechnicalCommittee housed at the NamibianAgronomic Board.The key challenge remains the timeousrecruitment of academic staff as thisparticular crop of experts is very limitedlocally. Efforts to liaise with the relevantgovernment departments to ensure thespeedy processing of work permits andvisas continued.The Faculty continued to host varioussecondary schools, local traditional andnational leaders, captains of local businessand industry as well partner Universitiesfrom abroad.Annual Report 2009 -33-
