Safety Excess Flow ValvesM-XF SeriesField adjustable excess flow valveFeatures• Can be disassembled for repair orinspection without removal from pipe line• Field adjustable• Broad adjustable range• Meets OSHA requirements for safety shutoffvalves• Operates effectively with liquids or gases• In-line flowMalema’s valves provide instant shut off in the event of a hosebreak or line failure, preventing the release of hazardous orinflammable products to the area, which can result in a disatrousfire or explosion and untold damage to personel and equipment.Note: All LPG tank cars and transport trucks are required by lawto have excess flow valves installed. In addition, state LPGregulatory bodies require excess flow valves on all LPG storagevessels, storing products for domestic delivery and consumption.OperationAs the fluid enters the valve,it flows through the orifice tothe outlet. The orifice andtapered piston create aventuri effect, acceleratingthe flow through the valve. At a preset flow rate, thepressure differential offsetsthe spring-loading of thepiston and shuts off the valve.Fluid can flow through thevalve in either direction;however, the flow will beshut off in the directionindicated on the valve.Illustrated is the M-XF Model.Applications• Fuel lines• Pollution control• Chemical processing• Gas and hydraulic lines• Petroleum and gas installationsCalibration Range *Air: 0.5 to 40,000 scfmWater: 0.1 to 2,500 gpm* These ranges are over different valve sizes.SpecificationsSet Point Accuracy: ±10% maximumRepeatability: ± 5%Material Versions *• Bronze• Carbon Steel• Cast Iron* Other materials available on request.Port Sizes *• Forged Steel• 316 Stainless SteelSafety Excess Flow ValvesAdjustment is achieved by means of an externally adjustablescrew that positions the pistons closer or farther away from theorifice. Turning the adjusting screw clockwise to reduce the flowarea causes actuation at lower preset flows.• 3/4”• 1”• 1 1/2”(ANSI Flanged, FNPT, and Socket Welded porttypes are available)* Other sizes available on request.malema flow sensors Catalog # 246:1• 2”• 3”• 4”• 6”• 8”• 10”

M-XF SeriesInstallation and MaintenanceThe mounting position for this excess flow valve is horizontal. These valves can also be mounted vertically; this willchange trip settings by approxiamately 15% (this is easily corrected since one can adjust the valve to counter forthis change). This valve can be easily maintained in the field without removing it from the pipeline as all thecomponents slide out of the top on disassembly; a special tool is provided for disassembly.Flow Characteristics(For Class 300 Valves)ValveSizeCVShut Off Range(Air/scfm)Shut OffRange(Water/gpm)3/4"3 0.5 1800.1 15Pressure DropTypical pressure drops for class 300 valves for normal flow arewell below 5 psi max.
