horizon and see and hear new<br />
things. Learn and study new<br />
things such as cultures, religions<br />
etc. Friday January 14, 2011the<br />
frosh<br />
and sophomores attended the “To<br />
Hot to Handel” Jazz Gospel Messiah.<br />
This event was held at Exelon<br />
and the Auditorium Theater.<br />
The concert was conducted by<br />
Miss Suzanne Mallare Acton and<br />
arranged by Mr. Bob Christianson<br />
and Mr. Gary Sanderson.<br />
This event celebrates the life and<br />
legacy <strong>of</strong> Dr. Martin Luther King<br />
Jr.<br />
The performers are as follows,<br />
Rodrick Dixon: Recent events that<br />
Mr. Dixon appeared in include<br />
Los Angeles Opera in the title<br />
role <strong>of</strong> Zemlinky’s Der Zwerg.<br />
He earned critical acclaim and an<br />
invitation to return with<br />
Maestro Conlon to the Cincinnati<br />
May Festival as tenor soloist<br />
in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9,<br />
Carmina Burana, Rachmanin<strong>of</strong>f’s<br />
The Bells, and Rossini’s Stabat<br />
Mater, and with the Philadelphia<br />
Orchestra. He has also appeared<br />
at the Vail Music Festival as tenor<br />
soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth<br />
Symphony.<br />
Alfreda Burke: Alfreda has appeared<br />
in concerts throughout<br />
North America and in Europe.<br />
She had preformed at Carnegie and<br />
Orchestra Hall debuts in Strauss’<br />
Elektra with the Chicago Symphony<br />
Orchestra led, Chicago Symphony,<br />
Civic Orchestra <strong>of</strong> Chicago,<br />
Detroit Opera, House/DSO/Rackham<br />
Symphony Choir, Milwaukee<br />
Symphony Orchestra, Prague Philharmonic,<br />
Umbria Music Festival<br />
in Italy, Todi Music Fest, Lancaster<br />
Festival, Grant Park Music Festival,<br />
Millennium Park Gala, Kennedy<br />
Center, Chicago Opera Theater,<br />
Auditorium Theatre, Chorus Angelorum<br />
and Chicagoland Pops<br />
Orchestra and many more. Karen<br />
Marie Richardson: Karen’s most<br />
recent performances are the Ragtime<br />
Musical at Drury Lane<br />
Oakbrook The Mistress Cycle at<br />
Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre,<br />
Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story at<br />
Drury Lane Theatre, and<br />
Hairspray the Musical at Fireside<br />
Theatre <strong>of</strong> Wisconsin.<br />
The genre <strong>of</strong> musics that will be<br />
played are jazz, gospel, bebop,<br />
blues and other musical influences.<br />
These are all very experienced<br />
singers, and they are ready to<br />
entertain anybody that is willing to<br />
listen.<br />
