Choosing Device Settings<br />

If KPPP is not already open, click on the Main Menu<br />

button, point to Inter<strong>net</strong> and then click KPPP. In the KPPP<br />

dialog box, click Setup. Now you are ready to configure<br />

this powerful tool.<br />

In the PPP Configuration dialog box, click the Device tab.<br />

You will see the Device settings, shown in Figure 1.3. You<br />

may have already used this tab earlier in this chapter to<br />

set the proper COM port. Now review the other options<br />

shown in Figure 1.3:<br />

• Flow Control. Regulates the speed of data, so that<br />

the data are not lost between your modem and your<br />

computer. There are two basic types of flow control,<br />

hardware (CRTSCTS) and software (XON/XOFF).<br />

As most software modems do not work with <strong>Linux</strong>,<br />

this should normally be set to CRTSCTS.
