NewsletterEditor Lotta Jacobsson, lotta.jacobsson@safegate.com Issue 1 | JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2010World leading climate work atStockholm-Arlanda AirportIn November last year Stockholm-Arlanda was thefirst airport to reach the highest level (3+) of theenvironmental climate program called “AirportCarbon Accreditation” supported by Airport CouncilInternational Europe (ACI) and WSP Environmental. This program is based on ambitious environmentalwork within all areas at the airport, the cooperationwith external partners and additional work withprojects related to reduce CO 2 emissions in lessdeveloped countries.Reducing energy consumptionWhen during 2009 Stockholm-Arlanda Airport decidedto update their taxi centre lines, the environmentalaspect was of high importance. Safegate Groupprovided the SafeLED IQ 2 A (running the circuitconstantly on 2 Amps allows for energy savings of50-80%) series circuit solution to be used at the taxicentre line lights. The lights will be fully integratedwith the existing ASP-SafeControl single lamp controland monitoring system. Each SafeLED IQ light hasa converter integrated with a communication andcontrol/monitoring unit. All components are moldedand protected to keep liquids out and prevent damageto the lights. The primary interest when installing the 2A systemis the reduction of energy consumption. Therefore,Stockholm-Arlanda Airport will map the consumptionused for the 2A circuits and compare it with the energyused before LED was installed. They will also compareagainst the part of the taxiway using standard 6,6Asystem with halogen lamps and traditional LED.High performance and great supportDuring 2008, after extensive testing of products fromdifferent suppliers, Safegate Group was chosen toinstall 45 SafeLED IQ at one stop bar and one lead on/off circuit. This because SafeLED IQ met Stockholm-Arlanda Airport’s needs of high performance, minimalmaintenance and great support to their comingenvironmental work. The stop bar lights have nowbeen running for more than 6000 hours and nomaintenance has been needed. The installation of thenew SafeLED IQ 2A system at Stockholm-ArlandaAirport will start in February 2010. The environmentalaspect of reducing CO 2 pkt emissions is of great importancefor Stockholm-Arlanda Airport, and SafeLED IQwill be a valuable contributor to the sustainabilityat the airport and the surroundingareas, and be a valuable contributionto the sustainability at the airport.
