In consequence there is a considerable backlog of published information and for the moment we concentrate on<br />
Stagecoach operations in Wellington. All information is taken from the "Omnibus Bulletin", subscriptions to which<br />
can be arranged through the Hon. Treasurer, Andrew Johnson.<br />
Registration numbers<br />
By the 1950's, all <strong>PSV</strong>'s were registered in a separate 'P' series (e.g. P.1128) with a few exceptions in series 'S'<br />
and 'V'. Fresh numbers, still with these prefixes were issued every 5 - 6 years resulting in wholesale reregistrations.<br />
This cumbersome and expensive system was replaced with a permanent registration system,<br />
consisting of two letters and up to four numbers, with effect from 1 st July 1964 for cars (which took letters AA - CQ)<br />
and from 1 st July 1965 for commercial vehicles and buses, starting at CR 1 - 9999. <strong>The</strong> system continues today.<br />
"Cherished" registrations can be obtained. Note that on resale, vehicles are often re-registered by the new owner<br />
with a then-current number.<br />
Fleet Numbers<br />
<strong>The</strong>se are mandatory in New Zealand.<br />
New Vehilces<br />
<strong>The</strong>se are not numerous in New Zealand. In recent years the totals for new registrations over 3,500kg's have<br />
ranged between 120 - 300.<br />

Stagecoach Wellington - acquired Wellington City Transport September 1992.<br />
Cityline, Hutt Valley - services only acquired c.1990.<br />
Runcimans Motors, Upper Hutt - acquired 1997.<br />
Stagecoach Auckland - acquired Yellow Bus, Auckland 1998.<br />
