Theworkshop follows the success of flight TG8421on 21 December 2011, which was THAI’sfirst flight operated with biofuels. THAI’s firstbiofuels passenger flight in Asia was TG104 on22 December 2011.Carbon emissions are substantially reducedwith the use of aviation biofuels in lieu of Jet A-1traditional petroleum-based fossil fuel becausebiofuels are produced from raw materials that areplants. These plants play a vital part in absorbingcarbon emissions in the atmosphere, which is apart of the biofuels production life cycle.In addition to the use of biofuels to reducecarbon dioxide emissions, mobile 2D barcodeboarding passes were introduced to make travelenvironmentally friendly by reducing use of paper.Laminated paper cups made from 100% recycledglass and recycled paper meal boxes are used onboard. Biodiesel is also used to operate passengerramp vehicles. By these means, THAI hasspearheaded its “Travel Green” initiatives to maketravel environmentally friendly in all areas.THAI is working with various organisationsin Thailand and overseas to organise the aviationand environmental workshop, initiated as aforum to exchange information on sustainableproduction of aviation biofuels in Thailand.The workshop includes key speakers fromgovernment organisations, academics andaviation experts.
